Responsible for consulting with partners to identify and define business requirements and translate business needs into complex analysis designs and recommendations. Identifies and recommends internal and external data sources, compiles/mines data from multiple, cross business sources; recommends and participates in the development of complex analysis designs using statistical and/or financial analysis, predictive modeling, process documentation, comparative analysis, customer/demographic analysis, etc.; interprets results and recommends solutions to increase revenue, reduce expense, maximize operational efficiency/quality, etc. Ensures adherence to data management/data governance regulations and policies. Data involved may be very large, structured or unstructured, and from multiple sources. To a certain degree, may assist indirectly in the technical build-out and/or support of databases, query tools, reporting tools, BI tools, dashboards, etc that enable analysis, modeling, and/or data visualization. May manage project teams and provide guidance to less experienced team members.

The Consumer Direct and Business Insights group drives performance improvement by providing analytical support to our business partner's highest priorities. In 2020, those priorities include: growing and retaining our Wells Fargo customers, delivering an improved customer experience, improving financial performance and effectively managing risks. As a Business Insights team member you will apply your considerable analytical skills to real business opportunities with real business outcomes.

The Analytic Consultant 3 position is a member of the Centralized Sales, Leads and Digital Analytics team within Consumer Direct and Business Insights supporting Wells Fargo Home Mortgage.

The successful candidate will have strong data mining, advanced analytics, and communication skills. This position will work with business leaders and project team leaders to assist in decision-making and business optimization using analytics, forecasting, and hypothesis testing techniques. We are looking for an Analytics Consultant that can identify data trends and patterns, quantify business implications, analyze key metric relationships, and provide actionable recommendations that will drive business performance.

This position is NOT considered a production reporting position.

There may be components of ad hoc or interim reporting support; however, the primary focus is analysis using the data and tools available to the team.

Responsibilities for the Analytics Consultant include:

  • Analyzes key metrics for trends and relationships that can improve customer service, operational efficiency, profitability, and compliance scores

  • Compiles/mines data from a variety of sources internal and external structured and unstructured (for use in analysis or ad hoc sizing of opportunity)

  • As needed, develops specific, customized reports, ad hoc analyses, and/or data visualizations using BI tools such as Micro Strategy & Tableau

  • Presents insights either in writing or verbally to senior leaders with recommendations; partners with business partners for consultation and ad-hoc analyses

  • Supports projects at the division and national level

  • Analyzes operational pilots, existing processes, and new business processes for effectiveness, impact and benefit

  • Responsible for statistics, modeling, forecasting, and hypothesis testing in Retail WFHM

Preferred locations for this position are Charlotte, NC; Des Moines, IA; Minneapolis, MN; Irving, TX; Denver, CO; Phoenix, AZ; Chandler, AZ; San Diego, CA. However, we are open to considering other locations throughout the U.S.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of reporting experience, analytics experience, or a combination of both; or a BS/BA degree or higher in a quantitative field such as applied math, statistics, engineering, physics, accounting, finance, economics, econometrics, computer sciences, or business/social and behavioral sciences with a quantitative emphasis and 3+ years of reporting experience, analytics experience, or a combination of both
  • 2+ years of SQL experience

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • SAS experience

  • Ability to research, compile, and perform complex analysis on critical operational data

  • Ability to translate and present complex technical data across technical and non-technical groups

  • Ability to influence, partner, and negotiate with senior business leaders to gain commitment to accomplish business goals

  • Knowledge and understanding of home lending or consumer lending

  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision in a structured environment

  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, achieve goals, and work under pressure in a dynamic and complex environment

  • Outstanding problem solving and decision making skills

Other Desired Qualifications

  • Tableau and/or Microstrategy experience or other industry data visualization tools

  • Knowledge and understanding of compiling and preparing executive summaries, whitepapers, and presentations for management/senior leaders as well as peers and other business partners

  • Knowledge and understanding of analytical methods used in: statistical analysis or modeling

  • Ability to work effectively in both onsite and virtual environments where key team members and partners are in various time zones and locations

  • Ability to independently source data from multiple databases and datamarts, with data in a structured or unstructured format

  • Ability to perform regression analysis as well as other statistical and performance analytics in SAS, R, Python or similar tools

  • Knowledge and understanding of Minitab, SPSS, R, SAS JMP, SAS Statistical Process (univariate/ multivariate/ means)

  • Inferential Statistical Modeling such as t/f tests and univariate/multivariate regression (Predictive and prescriptive modeling)

  • Experience and / or knowledge with Experimental Design (pre-and post-test, quasi-experiments, factorial designs, control groups, true experiments) and Research Methodologies (qualitative, quantitative, action learning, mixed-methods, hypothesis construction, scientific process, biases, validity, reliability, covariance)
