The U.S. Retirement Operations Analyst will be part of an HR compensation and benefits operations team responsible for all operational aspects of the American Express U.S. Retirement Program, including 401(k), defined benefit and nonqualified plans. The role will report to the Director of Retirement & LTIA Operations and be responsible for:

  • Support ongoing administration of retirement plan processes, including statement production, participant eligibility, service crediting, plan reconciliation and processing of contributions, loans and distributions

  • Provide support for timely compliance with regulations and quality standards, including compliance testing, preparation of annual report Form 5500, required plan notices and plan document changes, and required minimum distribution processing

  • Work on audits, nonqualified deferred compensation enrollments, proxy, mergers and acquisitions events and other ad hoc projects

  • Adhere to control, compliance and quality assurance processes, and maintain desktop procedures

  • Support day to day plan administration and analysis with minimal guidance

  • Collaborate with peers and partners, including internal and external clients and vendors, to provide timely solutions

  • Identify process improvements

  • Support management of vendor relationship with third-party provider of retirement recordkeeping/administration services, including ongoing monitoring and compliance as well as invoice processes

  • A minimum of two to three years of industry experience (operations or staff experience) in defined contribution and defined benefit plan administration or related position

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, human resources or related field

  • Working knowledge of retirement plan concepts

  • Working knowledge of business applications (e.g. MS Office, 3rd party retirement plan administration tools, database structure and query tools); knowledge of Salesforce is helpful

  • Proven ability to work on complex projects and tasks independently, as well as partner with cross-functional teams

  • Strong oral and written communications skills coupled with excellent interpersonal ability

  • Excellent customer service and problem solving skills in a fast paced environment

  • Enthusiastic attitude, cooperative team player, adaptable to new or changing circumstances, professional demeanor, sensitive to client needs, self-motivated, creative and innovative
