POSITION OBJECTIVES:

  • Provide technical expertise within the GMSci DP/Pkg organizations relating to manufacturing technology and sciences for drug product manufacturing.

  • Assists in preparation of regulatory submissions, including CMC content for dossiers

  • Ensures process knowledge is shared and leveraged across sites and functions

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assist the following activities, along with Pharmaceutical Sciences and/or Operation Units:

  • Drug Product Manufacturing Process Characterization,

  • Technology Transfer to both CMOs or internal manufacturing facilities,

  • Drug Product manufacturing and packaging process validation.

  • Execute technical tasks , both development and commercial, to support Global Manufacturing Sciences DP and Packaging Science activities.

  • Assist senior staff members to implement continuous improvement strategies to manufacture Marketed Products (a.k.a. matured products) in the late phase of the product life cycle.

  • Assist senior members to implement manufacturing strategy for key Takeda products at internal manufacturing network and CMOs

  • Acccountable for successful collaboration with

  • Other functions within GMS

  • Manufacturing Science Operating Unit staff

  • Pharmaceutical Sciences counterparts

  • Other key functional groups such as Global Quality, Regulatory CMC, etc.

  • Professional

Assists senior GMS professionals to achieve tasks as assigned and acts as a leader for individual tasks/projects supporting the Takeda key products.

EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

Education / experience

  • BS or graduate degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or other related discipline with 0 to 2 years of industrial experience, pharmaceutical development or equivalent.

Skills

  • Must be self-motivated, have good interpersonal skills, capable of analyzing and solving complex problems through innovative thought and experience.

VIEW JOBS 3/13/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-06-11T00:00 Job Description Vertex is seeking a highly motivated, scientifically driven and enthusiastic individual who will design and develop chemistry on a synthetic project while conducting laboratory experiments to enable the delivery of compounds to support toxicology studies, human studies, and technical transfer information internally and to contract research organizations externally. This individual may develop new chemistry, improve existing chemistry and demonstrate such chemistry by delivering compounds at expected purity and batch size for the appropriate phase of development. A Successful Candidate, Depending on Level of Experience, Will Have Some or All of These Listed Responsibilities and Attributes: * Considered a scientific leader throughout their career as evidenced through patents and/or publications. * Design and perform synthetic organic experiments efficiently, independently and in a fit-for-purpose fashion for the stage of development (pre-clinical through process validation). * Perform reaction process monitoring using a variety of analytical methods and work with analysts to develop sufficient methods. * Generate effective hypotheses to pursue synthesis or manufacturing goals and set new experimental direction. * Has a proven track record of scaling-up and delivering kg quantities of experimental drug substance in the appropriate physical form. * Understands and is able to develop synthetic plans for synthesis development of molecules. * Identifies impact of results on the overall process development timeline. * Multitasks to effectively manage multiple activities/projects. * Provides technical recommendations regarding process chemistry by assisting other chemists in the department and/or articulating issues to upper management. * Makes conceptual contributions to development activities and scientific strategies. * Develops novel and creative solutions to overcome synthetic and manufacturing obstacles. * Employs new principles and concepts from other fields to promote new progress in synthesis. * Ability and track record of successfully working in cross-functional teams. * Experience in drafting, reviewing and submitting required documentation pertaining to the development and preparation of drug substances under cGMP environment is desirable. * Be familiar with SOPs and GMPs and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and SOPs. * Experience and ability to draft CMC sections of INDs or CTAs is a plus. * May motivate or supervise other process chemistry staff on their day to day experiments and ensure compliance of the team with relevant regulations and SOPs. * Minimum Requirements: * Experience in writing and transferring developed technology to outside CROs and working with suppliers to solve chemical issues for compound delivery. * Author reports and regular updates at appropriate project intervals while maintaining excellent and reproducible laboratory records. * Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and will prepare presentations and reports as required. * Will perform other duties as assigned. * PhD with 0 - 4 years relevant process chemistry experience or * MS with 6 plus years relevant process chemistry experience or * BS with 8 plus years relevant process chemistry experience Company Information Vertex is a global biotechnology company that invests in scientific innovation.
