Duff & Phelps' Portfolio Valuation practice specializes in assisting clients with the valuation of alternative investments, specifically securities and positions for which there are no "active market" quotations such as illiquid securities for hedge funds, private equity funds, business development corporations and fund of funds.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Analyst will provide a range of valuation advisory services specifically to the alternative investment community including private equity and hedge funds, business development companies, pensions and endowments, in connection with our assisting those clients with valuation issues surrounding their alternative investment positions.

  • Designing financial models for discounted cash flow, market multiple, market transaction and option pricing analyses

  • Performing valuation analysis on a wide range of illiquid investments broadly distributed across industries and geographies while using accepted and relevant approaches and theory

  • Assisting team with Interviewing clients, including face-to-face meetings, to gather data and information pertinent to the engagement

  • Working with management with building and maintaining client relationships

  • Reporting and presenting analyses and conclusions including written reports

  • Attending relevant industry events to broaden your knowledge and experience within the alternative asset industry

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics or MBA

  • Minimum 1 year of constructing and reviewing valuation models and other financial models including: DCF, comparable company, commodity contracts/ forecasts, and other intangible asset models

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Knowledge of software packages including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Sound like you? Read on. Role Value Proposition: The Annuity Valuation team within Brighthouse Financial Actuarial is seeking to fill a full-time Actuarial Analyst. The position is ideal for a diversified individual with strong technical skills who is interested in financial reporting and actuarial analytics. The job requires consolidating GAAP, STAT and TAX entries across various valuation platforms, verifying ledger information, and reconciling actuarial data with finance transactions. The candidate will be responsible for analyzing valuation results, explaining reserve variances, evaluating regulatory requirements, etc. This position will also maintain and run various existing VB programs and scripts. Key Responsibilities: * Perform monthly/quarterly/yearend analysis and reporting for deferred annuities in order to support the following reserve basis: GAAP / STAT / TAX / NYMIN * Perform maintenance and execution of existing VB programs/VBA/Macros * Handle monthly amortization calculations for FAS113 reinsurance payable * Perform monthly reserve valuation and explain quarter to quarter variances * Work with Sub-Ledger group to perform reconciliation; analyze the source of variances * Prepare yearend surveys for reporting agencies and insurance department from various states * Coordinate with other teams to perform top-sided adjustments when needed * Prepare documents and spreadsheet for auditors on a scheduled basis as well as Ad-hoc * Participate system testing in the migration to a new valuation system Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills: * Bachelor degree in Mathematics, Computer, Finance, or related fields * Extensive working experience with Microsoft Office and Macro/VBA/Visual Basic * Strong organizational, mathematical and analytical abilities * Ability to work with others in a team environment * Ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time * Knowledge with actuarial concepts a plus * Two years of experience with insurance industry Travel: None Number of Openings: 1 Nearest Major Market: New Jersey Job Segment: Accounts Payable, Accounting, Law, Actuarial, Developer, Finance, Legal, Insurance, Technology Brighthouse Financial Morristown NJ
