Responsibilities

The Report Developer & Analyst is a key player in our reporting/analytics team and assumes responsibility for working with the business on the continuous development and support of reports and analytics. The role will also assume responsibility for the maintenance of our on-premise reporting servers (SAP BusinessObjects v4.2) and complementing tools (audit; report publishing and distribution).

The individual must have experience in supporting reporting/analytics solutions and projects, and specifically in developing and maintaining BusinessObjects reports, with a high level of technical competence, data analysis, customer service, and a strong understanding of Agile and ITIL processes.

The individual must be able to effectively communicate and form relationships with end-users and business leaders to understand the data and suggest improved methods for analyzing it, understand and extract data requirements, and hold training/mentoring sessions for using the resources developed on their behalf.

The individual must have an exceptional sense of customer service to provide an example for the team and engage with other teams across the organization. As this is a business-facing role, the Report Developer & Analyst must also have excellent communication skills and be able to quickly articulate progress or obstacles to all stakeholders, from internal/I.T. teams to line-level employees and Executive Vice Presidents.

Responsibilities and duties

  • Design, develop, and maintain SAP BusinessObjects universes and Web Intelligence reports.

  • Design and develop data structures (database tables and views) and data marts to support reporting and analytics requirements.

  • Be a "data evangelist" and inspire the business through interaction and content creation, and be able to demonstrate the power of data and the value of using and growing available resources (reports, dashboards, etc.).

  • Assume overall responsibility for the SAP BusinessObjects 4.2 environment.

  • Assume overall responsibility for any required upgrades and patches of SAP BusinessObjects.

  • Identify and execute on continuous improvement of the existing universes, reports, and database foundations.

  • Identify and execute on opportunities to grow our reporting and analytics resources by extending the use of SAP BusinessObjects or adopting either complementing or additional tools.

  • Adhere to Agile and ITIL processes for database development and integrations.

  • Ensures compliance with security policies and practices by following internal and external audit governing bodies.

  • Makes recommendations to improve and ensures the performance of quality assurance and support processes.

  • Provides professional and timely communications while working in a collaborative environment with a diverse group of associates.

  • Works closely with the I.T. project management team to deliver resources to projects in a timely and effective manner.

  • Regularly reports against uptime and availability and ensures both IT senior management and the business are kept proactively informed.

  • Ensures collaborative working practices are implemented and encouraged within the team, across the team, and with business partners.

  • Maintains a strong ethical approach to vendors, customers, and staff, and aligned with the ethical principles of the company.

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking current practices, and participating in professional societies.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Essential

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing skills.

  • Proven experience developing and supporting data analytics, business intelligence, and data warehouse solutions, especially developing and supporting SAP BusinessObjects solutions.

  • Proven understanding of versioning and the development lifecycle, especially regarding BusinessObjects and SQL Server objects.

  • Familiarity with Data Lakes, Operational Data Stores, and Enterprise Data Warehouses.

  • Familiarity with dimensional modeling and slowly changing dimensions.

  • Assume responsibility of the BusinessObjects environment:

  • Assist end-users with any questions or issues raised.

  • Manage Development, QA, and Production servers.

  • Perform maintenance activities such as updating/patching and performance tuning.

  • Perform system monitoring, metric reporting, and diagnostics.

  • Strong understanding of Agile & ITIL methodologies and processes.

  • Able to work and operate from our corporate office in Scottsdale, Arizona.

  • Able to work in a corporate office environment and with frequent contact with other staff, contractors, vendors, and the public.

  • Able to sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; normal manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; lift and move objects weighing up to 25 lbs.; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment, including a computer, telephone, etc.

Preferred

  • Varied experience with other reporting and analytics tools besides SAP BusinessObjects.

  • ITIL and Agile training and qualifications.

  • Experience of Home Building Industry (or a closely aligned industry).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or another related field.

  • Additional years of experience in report development roles will be considered in place of formal education.
