The Regulatory Reporting Team is an integral part of the overall Finance

  • Accounting Function within TD Securities and its subsididares which supports the reporting responsibilites for the different US regulated entities as well as providing key metrics internally for management of business , risk and control purposes. The team is responsible for the regulatory policy development and the related reporting production risk controls/processes as it relates to overall FOCUS reporting, net capital and customer protection as well as maintaining key relationships with both internal and regulatory stakeholders (SEC/FINRA/NFA/External Audit).

Overall purpose:

The primary purpose of this Analyst is to produce weekly & monthly deliverables for the key pillars of regulatory reporting namely FOCUS, Net Capital, Customer Protection as well as related needs for internal management reporting. The role will entail primary engagements with key areas within TD Securities as its relates to the the US regulated entities which includes the institutional broker and swap dealers as well as key external stakeholders such as regulators and external auditors. Additionally, the role will provide an opportunity in automation, data migrations, and firm integrations to enhance and ensure compliance, efficiency, and consistency across the regulated entities. The role will also maintain participation efforts in the team's suite of project initiatives.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Excel skills to produce weekly & monthly deliverables for regulatory reporting calculations and filing requirements (FOCUS, Net Capital & Customer Protection) for the US regulated entities (institutional, swap and limited purpose dealers);

  • Assist in the monthly filing of the FOCUS and respective supplementals; SSOI, SLS, OBS, Form Custody, SIPIC, FR2004;

  • Identify opportunities to enhance the production process through automation and efficiencies as well as contribute towards evolving the collaboration model across functional areas within and outside of Finance;

  • Optimize the regulatory reporting results into useful analytics for internal management purposes of capital usage and customer protection lock up;

  • Assist with the flow of regulatory exams and audits involving the regulated entities;

  • Participate in various team projects & initiatives in translating the tactical regulatory reporting processes into the desired strategic automated state

Desired Skillset:

  • Accounting/ Finance Degree, CPA or CFA plus;

  • FINRA Series 99 license required, can be obtained with 6 months of starting;

  • 3-5 years of experience; preferable in the broker dealer requirement

  • Excel Skills; advanced excel skills is a plus;

  • Prior knowledge or experience with financial statements. Regulatory aspects of broker dealers is a plus;

  • Detail oriented in order to handle and assist in automation efforts of large amounts of data in Excel or other TD Securities available platforms;

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills with the ability to produce various management information reports;

  • Working Knowledge of Bloomberg / Alytrx / Axiom (Adenza) / BPS / Workday / PeopleSoft / Impact / CG3 and other regulatory system functionality would be extremely useful but can be learned.

The Sr. Specialized Finance Analyst, TDS performs a variety of specialized finance functions in a particular finance area(s) with a high level of technical knowledge to give detailed and well-informed opinions of assigned business activities.

  • Uses advanced methods to contribute to new solutions and recommend standards against which others will operate

  • Impacts a range of finance programs across own and related teams

  • Interprets guidelines, standards, policies and results of analysis to inform decision making at senior levels

  • Builds stakeholder alignment in leading projects and activities; may provide process and subject matter advice at senior levels

  • Works independently as the senior technical lead and guides others within area of expertise

  • Identifies and leads problem resolution for complex issues at all levels

Education & Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree and/or

  • 5+ years of relevant experience preferred

  • Accounting, financial or relevant professional designation preferred

Customer Accountabilities:

  • Specializes in particular areas according to established policies and procedures and applicable legal and regulatory guidelines

  • Provides ongoing, proactive, specialized finance advice and counsel to business partners to ensure they are operating efficiently under applicable accounting rules and regulations

  • Communicates and meets regularly with partners to develop an in-depth understanding of their business and to provide accounting/ taxation insight, knowledge and expertise, such as improving accounting process flows or clarifying income and expense recognition practices

  • Recognizes, identifies and investigates business accounting issues that need attention, research as needed, offer specialized opinions based on research and knowledge and resolve problems

  • Responds to accounting-related requests on a timely basis and answers questions as needed.

  • Provides technical guidance and assist staff with most complex aspects of work as necessary

  • Resolves escalated issues and problems by conferring with peers, other internal departments, outside contacts and others as necessary

  • Ensures monthly recording of income, expense and other financial transactions is accurate and timely

  • Researches and determines proper accounting treatment for new products and services as needed and communicate complete, thorough and accurate accounting requirements; considers and explains risk management issues prior to implementation, such as determining how the accounting of new initiatives will be monitored and controlled

  • Performs a variety of activities related to month-end financial closing, which details the Bank's month-to-month financial condition, and/or completion of regulatory reports

  • Reviews monthly financial activity and ensures transactions are appropriately recorded in proper accounts, such as cost capitalizing vs. expensing. Researches discrepancies and makes corrections and updates as necessary

  • Monitors service, productivity and assesses efficiency levels within own function and implements continuous process / performance improvements where opportunities exist
