American Sign Language, Adjunct Faculty - Onondaga Community College

Job Description:

The Humanities Department at Onondaga Community College is currently inviting applications from qualified applicants to teach American Sign Language I (ASL 101) and American Sign Language II (ASL 102). Both courses are each three (3) credit courses.

Major Responsibilities:

• Prepare and present lectures;

• Meet with students as needed to answer questions;

• Respond to student queries (e.g. email or voice mail) as needed, in a reasonably timely manner;

• Write, administer, and grade all student assignments and exams;

• Compute grades and submit them on time.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• A Master's degree in ASL or a Master's degree in a related field with 18 credits in ASL.

• For native speakers: Bachelor's degree in ASL or a related field with 18 credits in ASL. (Mentoring will also be required for those not having the Master's degree.)

• Applicants should demonstrate fluent and accurate command of American Sign Language as well as knowledge of culture and language pedagogy.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience teaching at a community college.

• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. (English and another language will be considered.)

Additional Information:

The probationary adjunct pay rate is $1,371 per credit hour; 3-credit hours classes are $4,331.
