This is a temporary position anticipated to begin on 06/24/2024 and end on 12/23/24 (flexible with candidate availbility).

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position serves as a part-time member of the Campus Recreation staff. The primary responsibility as a lifeguard is to prevent drowning and other injuries from occurring. Lifeguards must ensure the safety of patrons by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors and be able to solve on-the-job issues by utilizing effective critical thinking and decision-making skills. Campus Recreation lifeguards must possess the ability to work with diverse populations, and educate and enforce pool policies through effective communication tactics.

DUTIES:

• Recognize and respond effectively in emergency situations by activating the Emergency Action Plan (EAP).

• Actively survey and scan the pool area at all times; refrains from socializing while on duty.

• Communicate and enforce all Campus Recreation pool policies and rules in a personable and professional manner.

• Maintain dress and appearance are consistent with Campus Recreation standards including wearing swimsuit, provided guard shirt, and necessary equipment while on duty

• Conduct facility inspections and complete shift checklists and forms and report any issues or concerns to the Assistant Director of Programs.

• Utilize proper radio protocol and response in a timely manner, includes radio communication

• Record participation numbers and complete daily assignments.

• Attend and participate in regular in-service trainings.

• Provide a welcoming environment for all patrons.

• Document any incidents and/or injuries.

• Maintain a clean and tidy work space

• Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):

Minimum Qualifications:

• This position requires a high school diploma and four years of related experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

• Must be current American Red Cross Deep Water Lifeguard certified. All candidates must upload a copy of their current American Red Cross certifications and resume.

• Must be able to submerge to a depth of 9 ft.

• Must be able to demonstrate competencies in American Red Cross lifeguard skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certified

• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certified

• Previous lifeguard experience
