Description: Roseville Area Schools has a vacancy for an American Indian Coordinator. This position works 40 hours per week and follows a 209-day school calendar starting July 1, 2024.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or higher

  • At least 4 years of working in a K-12 education system or similar experience working with students

  • Must have history of parent advocacy while improving student success and teacher efficacy

  • Knowledge of community resources that supports the needs of students, families and staff

  • Strong knowledge of Native history and culture

  • Experience using data to improve student learning outcomes to facilitate systematic change

  • Experience building relationships with teens with a wide variety of academic needs, understanding of public school systems and how to navigate and advocate for students

Position Responsibilities:

  • Write and manage grants for the State and Federal American Indian Education programs.

  • Lead the work of meeting the goals and strategies of the AIEA, EASIE, and JOM grants

  • Manage, facilitate, and empower the American Indian Parent Advisory Committee, including coordination of meetings and activities, transparent, frequent, and specific collaboration regarding budget, spending, goals, strategies, and progress toward goals for Indigenous students and families.

  • Collaborate and engage with families on school events and activities

  • Support the American Indian Cultural Liaison

  • Facilitate Indigenous district programming, including, but not limited to: community nights, classroom educational materials, professional development opportunities, summer programming, and tutoring opportunities for Indigenous students.

  • Partner with building principals and the Office of Educational Equity to develop plans and activities to consistently integrate indigenous education into programming and curriculum.

  • Collaborate with Human Resources to recruit and retain high quality Indigenous employees across employee groups.

  • Advise the Director of Equity and Innovation on issues facing the Indigenous community within the district.

  • Engage with students, staff and families to promote and support American Indian student achievement through bridging the gap between the culture and the learning environment

  • Promote meaningful communication between families and schools

  • Support schools with professional development needs and requests

  • Monitor student academic achievement progress and identify supports as needed

  • Collaborate with teachers and counselors to ensure access to services and consistent intervention support

  • Work with individuals or small groups of students so as to reduce the role of race in predicting student outcomes

  • Mentor middle and high school students regarding grades, attendance and career/college preparation and options

  • Bridge information from schools on enrollment paperwork, attendance, school performance issues, school policies and procedures, health choices, conferences, teacher or administrative communications

  • Participate with families at school conferences and IEP meetings if Cultural Liaison is not available

  • Attend Office of Educational Equity cabinet meetings.

  • Support the Curriculum Development process where applicable

  • Participate in district-wide professional development planning meetings.

  • Support the implementation of Indigenous Language courses in secondary schools.

Compensation: Pay starting between $55,000 - $85,500 depending on experience and qualifications.
