Ambulatory RN 2 Position (part-time)-Rush Cancer Center Infusion

The Rush University Cancer Center comprises all of the cancer-related clinical, research and educational efforts at Rush, crossing 20 departments, divisions and sections; inpatient and outpatient areas; professional clinical activities; and the colleges of Rush University.

Position Highlights:

  • A large chemotherapy area with 56 infusion stations, 20 private.

  • Cancer Integrative Medicine Program's complementary therapies, such as nutritional counseling, psychosocial counseling, massage therapy and acupuncture, which promote patients' sense of well-being.

  • State-of-the-art patient exam and procedure rooms.

  • 45 exam rooms, 15 patient consultation rooms and three procedure rooms, including designated rooms for diagnostic gynecologic and bone marrow procedures.

  • 2- 10 hour shifts/week

  • Day shift, no weekends or holidays

Position Responsibilities:

  • The RN is responsible for all aspects of patient care specific to infusion therapy.

  • The RN remains accountable and responsible for all delegated tasks and should have clear knowledge of the nursing scope of practice relative to assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of infusion therapy.

  • Acts as expert in state-of-the-art technologies associated with infusion therapies

Position Qualifications:

  • Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse Licensure

  • BSN or MSN required

  • Current certification in ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire

  • At least 1 year of nursing experience. Infusion experience preferred.

Director of Pharmacy performs specified distributive and clinical pharmacy activities and related services as they pertain to providing safe and effective infusion therapies (in accordance with State, Federal and OSHA regulations) for the Home Infusion Pharmacy. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: * Receives, reviews and verifies all new patient orders and documents are the same on the respective order form. * Provides consultation and answers inquiries from patients, families, physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding medications and their appropriate use. * Supervises, coordinates, directs and/or participates in the preparation of sterile intravenous admixtures, dispenses all pharmaceuticals and related supplies and equipment in accordance with federal, state and local laws and standards of practice which govern the profession of pharmacy. * Processes and checks all medications, supplies and equipment prior to dispensing from the pharmacy. Process all orders in a timely fashion. * Maintains pharmacy records in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. * Maintains clinical skills and knowledge of pharmacotherapy by reviewing the literature and attending in-services, seminars and conferences. * Accurately administers all procedures involved with the procurement, inventory control, record maintenance and distribution of investigational drugs. * Monitors drug therapy and communicates relevant findings to other health care professionals who are also responsible for patient care. * Supervises support personnel in the data entry process, filling and dispensing of prescriptions, proper storage and adequate inventory control of drugs. * Participates in on-call rotation. * Participates in orientation/training programs for new personnel and current staff. Participates in the educational activities of pharmacy technicians and serves as a preceptor exposing them to all aspects of pharmacy practice. * Participates in departmental Quality Assurance activities. * Performs marketing support functions as requested. * Attends department meetings as scheduled. * Performs within the framework of the RUMC/HDM. L.L.C. policies and procedures. * Performs other tasks or special projects as assigned by management. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. (A Doctor of Pharmacy or ASHP residency is desired.) * Currently licensed as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Illinois. * Minimum of two years recent experience in an acute-care setting or one year recent experience in home infusion therapy desired. * Experience and strong knowledge base in intravenous admixture services, intravenous drug therapy and chemotherapy is required. * Capable of assuming responsibility for evaluating and monitoring drug therapy relative to the total needs/problems of the ambulatory care patient in collaboration with physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals. * Must be able to work effectively with others to provide safe and effective drug therapy. * Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to work independently and quickly in responding to and resolving a wide range of problems. * Flexibility with work schedule. * Participation and membership in professional societies and organizations is desirable. * Excellent verbal and communication skills. * Dependable in attendance and job performance. * Good organizational and time-management skills. * Team player with a positive attitude and work ethic.
