Performs direct patient care in a compassionate and timely manner and applies the art and skill of diagnostic imaging through the safe and effective use of radiologic technology.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of direct patient care by evaluating the patient, verifying patient ID, and related information to assure appropriate procedure is performed; explains procedure to patient; prepares patient for procedure by obtaining and recording patient history and consent form (if applicable); ensures patient comfort, privacy, and safety during procedure; monitors condition of patient and medical equipment that may be disturbed due to the nature of exam and report changes to patient care services.

  • Properly positions patient to perform routine diagnostic radiographs; calculates and selects proper technical factors based on information such as age, medical history and suspected pathology; assesses quality of radiographs with minimal supervision; competently performs in assigned areas that encompass specialty procedures e.g.: surgery, C-arm, tomograms, venograms, arthrograms, myelograms, ERCP, sialograms, video speech evaluation, hysterosalpingogram and other specialty procedures as well as GI and GU procedures; maintains acceptable exam repeat rate; assists physicians in performance of fluoroscopic and minor specialty exams by providing and administrating proper contrast media, positioning patient and operating fluoroscopic equipment; performs IV injections and has knowledge of use and care of existing IV's; identifies all images with appropriate lead markers and patient name; provides proper radiation protection for patients, self and others (uses lead aprons, lead gloves, and gonadal shielding when appropriate).

  • Participates in performance improvement projects and performs quality control testing as required by department; assists department in achieving successful results in all federal, state, and local agency audits.

  • Participates in the education/instruction of students and the orientation of new staff.

Clerical procedures, aide functions and other duties will be assigned as directed by the radiology director. Education: Graduate from an approved JRC program. Holds current BLS CPR card. Must possess current ARRT and ODH licenses. Experience: ARRT Experience in 1 modality such as CT, MRI, Radiology, Interventional Radiology; will be trained in a 2nd. Knowledge & Abilities Attends educational programs as described by department policy. Participates in staff meetings and stays abreast of changes in policies, procedures, and technical advancements. Employs safe operation principals of x-ray generating equipment. Knowledge of hospital procedures including infection control. Skill and accuracy in patient positioning and scientific application of established technical factors. Interacts with patients, physicians and co-workers on a professional level that promotes the well-being of the patient and teamwork among the health providers. Employs proper body mechanics techniques for the transportation, transfer and positioning of patients and equipment. The caregiver provides service to all age groups. Registration, Certification or Licensure Requirement: Maintains professional certificates. Ohio Licensure. General Orientation: Orientation to provide understanding of existing hospital and department policies and procedures, as well as the Values and requirements of Mercy Health Partner's Mission Services. Individual must have knowledge and experience in CT. Works well independently in a fast-paced environment, and also works well with others. Individual must be highly motivated. Knowledge of safe operation of X-ray generating equipment and dose reduction. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a demanding, fast paced environment with exposure to contagious disease and human body fluids. Must have the ability to be on their feet the majority of the time, walking, stooping and lifting. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Complies with established hospital policies, procedures, practices to assure that standards of quality, efficiency and safety are met. Documents appropriate patient information on requests and supplemental forms. Completes all other required documentation such as routine equipment checks and QA activities, provides other statistics as necessary. Performs limited office duties including file room cleanup, filing and file retrieval. Provides service to all age groups. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on assigned unit.
