DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

At Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA), the pharmacy department has the best of both worlds - an innovative academic environment in a community hospital setting and an outpatient setting. The pharmacy department at Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) is a dynamic department with cutting edge clinical services and state of the art automation and technology.

We utilize EPIC for our Electronic Health Record (EHR), Pyxis technology for dispensing and have bedside bar coding implemented in all inpatient areas. All of the services we provide are performed with a focus on optimizing clinical outcomes and patient safety, increasing patient satisfaction and improving the financial sustainability of the organization.

Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Manager Ambulatory Pharmacy Services and the immediate supervision of the Ambulatory Pharmacists, and within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures, the Ambulatory Pharmacy Technician II performs various non-judgmental aspects of pharmaceutical care in an ambulatory pharmacy setting.

Primary, essential job functions involve prescription processing, patient interactions, inventory management, cash collection, and record-keeping. A commitment to patient safety, customer satisfaction, efficient/effective use of resources, teamwork, innovation, and performance improvement is required.

Responsibilities:

1.Accurately creates/maintains a patient profile of health- and insurance-related information in the pharmacy computer system.

2.Accurately registers patients as required and enters prescription orders into the computer systems.

3.Assists patients, family members and/or employees who drop off prescriptions; sets appropriate prescription pick-up expectations.

4.At point of sale, verifies that patient or agent receives correct prescription(s).

5.Assists Ambulatory Pharmacists in filling prescription orders, compounding various non- sterile products, dispensing prescriptions and making the offer to counsel.

6.Assists Ambulatory Pharmacists in handling phone calls from patients and health care providers.

7.Assists Ambulatory Pharmacists in maintaining an accurate perpetual inventory of all schedules II - V controlled substances.

8.Accurately and safely handles cash received from patients. Maintains appropriate records.

9.Places daily order with wholesaler, receives/open/places into inventory all items; completes associated documentation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Other information:

Education/Training: High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate is required.

Registration: Must have a current pharmacy technician registration in good standing from the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy or be eligible for registration in MA. In lieu of an active MA registration, candidates must register prior to working 1000 hours at the Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA). Failure to register within this time period will result in the discontinuation of employment at CHA.

Certification: Completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved certifying body pharmacy technician certification examination is preferred.

3.Ability to effectively prioritize responsibilities while under pressure.
