Job Summary:

Serves as the first point of contact for patients within the Bassett Healthcare Network. This is a key role in the patient centered care team.

Demonstrates excellence in all patient and customer encounters including face-to-face and telephone interactions. Assures that a high quality patient experience takes place by providing administrative and/or clinical support to ambulatory patient care teams through excellent customer service, attention to detail, and interpersonal skills. Responsible for providing clear, accurate, timely communication to nurses and providers regarding patients.

Responsible for accurate, appropriate scheduling of patients for optimum care and provider efficiency. Responsible for collecting demographic and financial information during the scheduling and/or registration processes to ensure full and timely revenue capture. May have direct revenue responsibility through payment collection, cash handling, processing of insurance eligibility and managed care information. May also have direct patient care responsibilities.

Minimum Requirements:

Education/Qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent preferred

Experience:One year of relevant work experience required

Customer service experience is preferred

Associates degree or higher may substitute for one year of relevant work experience

Licensure/Certificates: Certification as a Medical Office Assistant or Medical Assistant is preferredBLS within 6 month of hire


Skills:
Strong computer, customer service and communication skills required.

Skills in medical terminology a plus. Ability to prioritize work. Must have the ability to handle confidential information and sensitive situations.

Interpersonal skills to work with diverse people within and outside the organization.Physical Requirements:
Busy medical practice/clinic environment with frequent patient interaction. Extensive use of computers and telephones

Must be able to identify and differentiate colors

Walking, standing, squatting and kneeling required throughout the shift.Ability to lift and position patients required.Category I risk exposure as defined by OSHA

This position will have direct patient care responsibilities such as EKG#s, Vitals, height/weight, etc. Essential Functions: Perform reception, registration, phones, appointment scheduling, cashiering, health information functions Perform referrals, cross coverage and office support functions Obtain prior approval or prior authorization as needed. Communicates referral appointment and appointment instructions to patient May be required to be cross-trained and provides coverage for another business support function, including HIM, Charge Entry, Coding, Document Imaging (DI) Demonstrates excellence in all patient and customer encounters including face-to-face and telephone interactions. Greets outpatients and gives patients the proper outpatient examination questionnaires. Schedules in EPIC and transcribes orders when necessary, answers phones, burns CD for patients, obtains medical records releases, sorts department mail, scans documents into PACS. Transports patients from the in-patient floors and nursing home to the Medical Imaging Department, as needed.
