POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Under the direction of the Outpatient Oncology Nurse Manager, provides reception, scheduling, and other clerical functions in the oncology setting, which includes clinic as well as chemotherapy/infusion activities. Provides primary phone reception, greets patients, schedules appointments, performs order entry, compiles reports, and communicates appropriate messages to physicians, staff, and patients.

High School graduate or equivalent and completion of a medical terminology course.
Two years of related medical specialty experience may substitute for the medical terminology course.
Two years of experience as a secretary, clerk or equivalent position. Health care experience is desirable.
Completion of a medical secretary or health information program may substitute for the experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to perform computer functions
Solid customer service skills
Knowledge of medical terminology
Knowledge of telephone, paging system, and other communication systems
Ability to prioritize multiple requests for information or assistance from physicians, other staff, patients and visitors
Ability to transcribe physician orders with the highest degree of accuracy
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, patients and visitors
Ability to understand and effectively communicate orally and in writing
