POSITION SUMMARY: The Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse shall provide nursing care under the direction of a registered nurse in accordance with Federal, State, and local laws and within the guidelines of the state nursing act.
Have graduated from an accredited school of professional nursing.
Have current licensure as a Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse in the state of New Mexico
Have at least one (1) year experience in an acute hospital setting or equivalent experience.
Exhibit professional behavior and attitudes.
Possess and maintain good physical and mental health, including current TB testing in accordance with the agency's Health Screening policy.
Demonstrate the ability to make appropriate professional judgments.
Possess good interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrate successful completion of a medication test.
Must have a valid NM Driver's license
Must have reliable transportation available during work hours. Vehicle must be properly registered and insured in accordance with state law.
Must possess current CPR and First Aid Certification
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide professional quality nursing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse
Furnish services in accordance with Agency philosophies
Prepare clinical and progress notes
Assist the physician and Registered Nurse in performing specialized procedures
Prepare equipment and materials for treatments observing aseptic technique as required
Assist the client in learning appropriate self-care techniques
Maintain a safe environment for the client
Accurately assess, plan and implement client care
Perform direct client care
Maintain an accurate clinical record by documenting in accordance with Agency Policy
Initiate rehabilitative nursing procedures and techniques as appropriate
Communicate effectively with all members of the interdisciplinary team
Initiate appropriate communication with the Nursing Supervisor and physician when directed to do so
Perform therapeutic procedures per plan of care established by the Registered Nurse Case Manager in conjunction with the physician
Work effectively with members of the health care team
Promote health counseling
Perform independently after initial direction by the Nursing Supervisor
Assume responsibility for professional growth and development by actively participation in continuing education, in-service programs, orientations and personal evaluations.
Accept and fulfill assignments with Agency and exercise judgment in accepting assignments
Adhere to dress code
Adhere to work schedule and maintain good punctuality and attendance record
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary.
Satisfactory completion of pre-employment health screening if applicable, including drug screening.
Satisfactory completion of background check in accordance with State of New Mexico Caregivers Criminal History Screening Program.
PHYSICAL OR ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
HEAVY--Responsible for client care needs which may require transfers and lifting of clients. Nursing care performed in individual client homes. Must be adaptable to a variety of environments and settings in the community. Driving in all types of weather.
