Alumni Relations Officer

JOB SUMMARY

Serving as the primary liaison between Spalding University and its diverse alumni base of approximately 15,000. The Alumni Relations Officer serves as the front line of communication with the university's alumni and focuses on developing alumni engagement and giving. Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer, this individual develops relationships with alumni, department chairs. students, staff and current donors through one-on-one meetings, events, email, newsletters, and social media to increase engagement with Spalding University. As a member of the Advancement team, this person works to meet the University's short- and long-term fundraising and engagement goals.

Salary for this position is $46,000/year.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborating with the Chief Advancement Officer and Manager of Advancement Services & Data Support, collaborate on the development of communication, engagement and outreach plans including solicitation plans for all alumni, faculty, and staff, lower-level donors, and students.

  • Establish long and short-range goals to assist in the meaningful engagement of our alumni and their support of Spalding University.

  • Direct and actively support volunteers including Alumni Leadership Council, reunion committees, and others to help them with engaging event planning efforts. Help grow their impact on the university community.

  • Assist in coordinating annual alumni awards and related events.

  • Develops and implements strategies to raise the participation rate of support by alumni. Spalding University has approximately 15,000 alumni across the country.

  • Utilizes the university's computerized records system to ensure alumni records are accurate as possible.

  • Establish opportunities for current Spalding students to be "prepared" to be engaging young alumni.

  • Assists students seeking personal and professional connections for networking opportunities with Spalding University alumni.

  • Evaluates the effectiveness of alumni programs and services, identifying problems, recommending improvements, and instituting changes.

  • Serves as a resource to alumni on university programs and activities.

  • Assists with the planning and management of signature university events and develop new alumni events including individual college/school alumni events, athletics, and reunion programs. Alumni events may take place on- and off-campus.

  • Collaborate with Spalding marketing team to create engaging content on the Alumni Relations webpages, alumni newsletters, and alumni-targeted social media outreach.

  • Create and maintain a public master calendar for all alumni events planned and implemented though Alumni Relations.

  • Make direct asks to alumni up to $1,000 - help grow alumni giving.

  • Assist the Advancement Office in other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Baccalaureate degree or equivalent experience.

  • Development and event planning experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience with community and individual outreach, and facility with social media, email, and other forms of mass communication.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate well with diverse constituent groups, both within and outside the University.

  • Superb written and oral communication skills.

  • A commitment to a positive team culture and full and visible participation in the formal and informal life of the campus community.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with and in support of volunteers, other Advancement staff, and other University representatives to cultivate and solicit donors for university-wide priorities.

  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills; highly detail oriented.

  • A working style characterized by high energy, absolute integrity, a strong commitment to collegiality and transparency, and compassion.

  • Authentic passion for Spalding University's mission and desire to foster practices incorporating diversity, equity inclusion and belonging.
