Description

The Office of Alumni Relations in the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications is seeking a junior/senior in public relations/advertising who has excellent communication, organization and social skills, and a strong work ethic, for a paid internship for academic year 2019-2020.

Approx. 15 hours a week. The position requires strong writing skills, the ability to perform multiple tasks, a familiarity with Word and design programs, demonstrated experience with social media in a professional setting, and an ability to work independently in an office environment. Previous experience with communications, public relations and/or alumni relations on campus strongly preferred.

Experience interacting with alumni, families and students a plus, as is previous experience coordinating on-campus tours and/or working Penn State events. The selected applicant will assist in student and alumni event planning, preparation and on-site, hands-on working of events; create event programs; organize marketing tools, create and implement marketing plans; write, edit and research; interact extensively with alumni. Minimum 3.6 GPA required. Deadline to apply is June 20, 2019.

This internship is a part-time position requiring up to 15 hours a week. The position is designed to give students professional hands-on experience that will complement their classroom knowledge and enhance their academic studies. The internship will focus primarily on research on local governments within the Centre Region and various municipalities surrounding commonwealth campuses. The Intern will design presentations on local government structures and provide updates on the issues addressed by local boards, authorities, and commissions. The Intern will also work on a variety of special projects including the local government newsletters, special events and other duties as assigned. This position will report directly to the Director of Local Government and Community Relations. This is position pays $10.00 an hour. Duties Include: Develop knowledge of Penn State`s town and gown priorities within the Centre Region and Commonwealth Campuses. Develop a spreadsheet of common local government and community relations issues at Commonwealth Campuses. Create PowerPoint presentations on the organizational structure of local governments. Assist with the creation of a monthly electronic community newsletter by interviewing local government and community leaders. Assist with planning for special events. Assist with the facilitation of community relations mixers. Qualifications: Applicants must be a Penn State undergraduate (junior or senior) or graduate student in political science, public policy, community, environment, and development, or communications. Ideal candidates will be detail-oriented, organized, creative and possess a professional work ethic. They must also have the following: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; self-motivated with strong organizational skills; excellent computer skills with experience in social media and Microsoft Office; intermediate to expert skill level in Microsoft PowerPoint; the ability to work independently with others; dependability, flexibility, and ability to maintain confidentiality; a 3.0 or above GPA.
