The Board of Trustees of the Panama-Buena Vista Union School District announces one vacancy for Opportunity Class Teacher. The Opportunity Class Teacher will be under the direction of the Administrator of Alternative Programs. The Opportunity Class will provide an alternative education program for students who have behavioral challenges and are irregular in attendance and/or habitual truants. Students assigned to this class will be offered a specialized curriculum climate (including reduced class size), individual instruction when necessary, and guidance services so they may reestablish themselves for return to the regular program as soon as practical. This class will be located at the Alternative Education campus. Among the prerequisites for the position is an interest in working with at-risk students and a willingness to provide instruction for a multi-grade, heterogeneous classroom.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach a multiple subject program utilizing course of study and materials adopted by the Board of Trustees.

  • Develop and implement lesson plans which provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.

  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

  • Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.

  • Communicate with parents through a variety of means including online grading program. Hold parent conferences when needed to discuss the individual pupil's progress.

  • Identify pupil needs and collaborate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.

  • Utilize data to inform instruction and appropriate behavioral interventions.

  • Both teacher and students will be using technology in this blended classroom with an opportunity for personalized learning.

  • Supervise pupils on yard duty and in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.

  • Participate in curriculum development programs within the scopeof assignment and/or on a district level.

  • May plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants, and other paraprofessionals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid California Multiple Subject Credential with English Learning Authorization

  • Appearance, grooming and personality which establish a desirable model. Standard or above standard performance evaluations.

  • Must be able to establish good working relationships with other professionals.

  • Ability to speak effectively and authoritatively regarding District programs and curriculum to staff, parents, and administrators through trainings and presentations.

  • Ability to create a flexible program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth.

  • Ability to establish effective rapport with pupils to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for upper grade education, in accordance with each pupil's ability.

  • Ability to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

SALARY AND TERMS OF SERVICE

Annual Salary Range: $58,223 to $117,885, with 25 incremental steps. Step placement on the salary schedule is determined by the number of years of prior experience in the position classification within an accredited educational institution. Additionally, column placement on the salary schedule is determined by the number of educational-related post-baccalaureate units earned from a regionally accredited college or university (new hires are not eligible for placement on Column VII in their first year of District employment). Additional compensation of $1,500 per year for Master's Degree holders or additional compensation of $2,500 per year for Doctorate Degree holders.The District currently contributes up to $19,793.00 towards family, dental, medical, and vision insurance plans, along with a life insurance plan for the employee.
