Comments and Other Information

The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District is looking for a progressive, talented and passionate individual to help teach and lead in our Middle School Community Day School program which serves a small group of students who have behavioral challenges, and or have been expelled. This small group of students are referred by their comprehensive school with the desire that they return once their behavior is deemed to be appropriate for the comprehensive setting.

Given that their behavioral challenges are often related to deeper issues, the need for interventions that are appropriate and researched based is essential. Our ideal candidate is someone who is focused on equitable educational opportunities and desires to work with underserved students and seeks to be involved in shifting the life trajectories of our students. Many of our students are systems involved or have exhibited concerning behavior and need someone with the experience, love, and knowledge required to support them.

The schedule envisioned for the school year involves direct teaching for 75% of the day, with the remaining time dedicated to student observations, data gathering, and helping to ensure our students have the necessary support and interventions they require. We anticipate one of these periods being a prep buyout, which translates to a supplemental pay increase totaling approximately 12.5% of where the individual would be placed on the salary schedule. We are hoping to employ someone with a proven track record of working with students who have not succeeded in the traditional environment.

Within this position the candidate would be performing direct instruction, while acting in a leadership role and mentor as they collaborate with instructional assistants and our mental health providers. The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District is committed to equal opportunity for all individuals in education and in employment. MPUSD prohibits discrimination, harassment, intimidation, and bullying based on actual or perceived age, ancestry, color, physical or mental disability, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, immigration status, marital status, medical information, national origin, parental status, pregnancy status, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, military or veteran status, political affiliation or activity, or association with a person or a group with one or more of these actual or perceived characteristics.
