Your Role
As the Alterations Manager, your primary responsibility is the coordination of the Workroom Operations, the development of a process method, and a staffing plan for all work sections. You are passionate about Alterations, business-driven, with excellent Customer Service skills with vast experience in Fashion Retail Alterations.
What You'll Do
Plan and organize a production system capable of altering 230 garments per day with an expandable capacity of 25% during sales or peak periods.
Produce work quality comparable to or better than the original workmanship of each garment altered.
Complete and return to the stores all alterations within 48 hours (weekday hours) from receipt by the Central Workroom.
Assign unit and quality objectives to each associate and monitor the achievement of these objectives.
Trains staff for each work section to continue to build skillsets and develop the team.
Develop staff to achieve the Neiman Marcus quality standards.
Provide training to overcome deficiencies or take appropriate disciplinary actions, where needed.
Check and improve the efficiency of layout, workflow, equipment, and machinery in the workrooms.
Provide for the maintenance, repair, and replacement of equipment in coordination with outside mechanics, suppliers, and the Service Center Director.
Select, test, and purchase all tailoring supplies needed. Make the information and the supplies available to the Regional Service Manager for distribution to the store Fitting Stations.
Plan and budget expenses to meet Corporate Operations objectives. Control these expenses and document reasons for variability which will lead to accurate future plans.
Establish a harmonious and positive relationship with the Regional Service Manager to help maintain a qualitative perception of the service among salespeople, customers, and store management.
Develop a procedure for the clerical staff to check and inspect the merchandise in/out to produce all the documentation necessary to manage and control the business.
Oversees Pressing, Checking/Inspection, and other operational sections.
Make specialized alterations available to Neiman Marcus stores outside the Region. These services include: Buttonholes, Trouser Recuts, Knitted Hems, Double-Blind Machine Hems
What You Bring
Deep knowledge and understanding of Alterations Workroom.
Ability to work across internal groups to garner consensus and partnership.
Strong positive attitude that can handle multiple disruptions, roadblocks, and changing priorities and timelines.
Detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills, able to work under deadlines in a changing environment, and able to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
Proven leadership skills, ability to prioritize, and communicate clearly, a consistent track record of delivery, and an obsession with the customer experience.
Ability to interact with executives, managers, subject matter experts, and product owners in a matrix structure of product management teams.
Strong knowledge and understanding of the retail domain.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence effectively without direct authority, balancing between competing priorities while remaining flexible and creative.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work up, down, and across organizational levels.
Strong business acumen, operations, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to assess current practices, identify opportunities for improvement, build consensus, and drive the implementation of related changes.
