Job Summary:

Job Description:

Sorting almonds per production specifications. When needed, performs a variety of tests, established by Blue Diamond Growers, on whole natural almonds, to analyze quality and establish grade levels of product from production lines, to determine if the product meets USDA and company standards. Follows Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's), (that includes allergen control and food safety policy), BDG policies and safety practices while performing these job duties. (Is paid according to job being performed)

As a sorter (a):

Manually removing defective almonds or foreign material from a moving belt while maintaining product quality by following customer specifications. Required to meet output standards, schedules, and deadlines designated by production standards and the Department Manager.

As a temporarily assigned QC Inspector (b):

Required to draw random samples from the MPL or Meat Whse. production lines to perform a variety of predetermined tests. Ensures product quality standards are clearly defined and that the finished product quality attributes are within specification.

Performs final test for foreign material, rejects, concealed damage and insects, logging type and amount found. Conducts moisture analysis and records the test results on data sheets; enters results into corporate Quality Assurance computer program (SPC) and notifies appropriate supervision if test results do not meet specification as needed. Follow HAACP procedures and auditing procedures.

Collects samples for specific customer's in-line and exiting Inventory for lab analyses.

Calibrates and assists in maintenance of inspection instruments.

Other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned by the Department Manager or Shift Lead.

POSITION DIMENSIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Education Level and Focus:

High School Diploma is required as a QC Inspector.

Years and Type of Related Experience Required:

Previous sorting experience preferred.

As a QC Inspector: Previous Quality Control experience desirable.

Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) a plus. Experience with usage of common inspection tools (i.e. sieves, scales etc.) preferred.

Skills and Abilities

Interpersonal and Communication:

As a sorter: Must be able to communicate with MFG Department Manager and Shift Lead of Sorting Room.

As a QC Inspector: Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills to work with others. Ability to pass on correct instructions from Manager or Lead to other Inspectors and Inventory Control A is mandatory.

Technical and Analytical:

As a sorter: Must be able to sort to Blue Diamond Growers standards.

As a QC Inspector: Basic computer and math skills are required.

Must have the ability to prioritize effectively and work accurately in a timely and efficient manner. Must be able to perform a variety of grade analyses and follow written procedures as outlined in numerous operating procedures.

Administration and Operations:

Must understand Blue Diamond Growers HACCP processes, Good Manufacturing Procedures (GMPs), policies, procedures and safety practices.

Physical Demands:

See Essential Functions Checklist. Stamina is required for extended periods of standing or sitting with intense visual concentration and strong attention to detail.

Good eye-hand coordination and depth perception are needed to sort. Must be able to lift 25 lbs alone or 50 lbs with assistance. Must be willing to work in a fast paced environment to determine accurate test results in a timely manner. Overtime and weekend work as production demands is a requirement to the performance of this position.

Work Environment:

Almond dust; working in high-level noise areas from production machinery; possibly working on various levels if testing in other areas (grader room, etc.) is needed.
