The mission of Minnesota Children's Museum is sparking children's learning through play.
The museum's vision statement is:
Kids play more. Adults do, too. We thrive as a happier, healthier and more innovative community through the radiant power of play.
The museum continues to promote the power of play through immersive exhibits, programs and initiatives that emphasize play as a critical ingredient in every child's development. The museum serves as a welcoming space for all families to engage in playful learning. The museum promotes developmentally appropriate expectations that foster children's healthy development in an environment that nurtures and supports lifelong learning and 21st Century skills.
MCM advocates for play in helping children learn and practice skills they need to thrive; however, the greatest gaps appear in low-income households, and because of racial and ethnic disparities, children of color are disproportionately left behind in achieving their full potential. MCM supports families residing in Saint Paul experiencing economic hardship by providing access to the museum through an All Play membership. The VISTA member will have support to ensure the sustainability of the program.
Year one will include an assessment of the current state of the program and the pilot. Year one will also include determining the best way to strengthen the program's internal and external capacity by advancing the organization's cultural humility lens and establishing and tracking outcomes measures. The VISTA member will support the museum in creating a cohesive community-based, culturally appropriate network of family-serving organizations and community resource partners.
