Therapeutic Learning Services Program, Montowese Elementary
Reports to: Building Principal and Director of Student Services
Supervises: N/A
Work Year: 2024-2025 School Year
Salary: Per Union Contract
Position Description
Provide specialized therapeutic support for students enrolled within the District's Therapeutic Learning Services Program (TLS). This program is specifically designed to address students' learning needs with a major emphasis on therapeutic support. The TLS School Psychologist or School Social Worker will work hand-in-hand with the TLS Special Education Teacher to support students with various emotional challenges and case management along with general education classroom teachers, multiple service providers, and the District's contracted BCBAs and RBTs.
Education, Qualifications and Expectations
Degree in School Psychology (070) or School Social Worker (071) with current or pending certification through the Connecticut State Department of Education;
Experience in working with students with an emotional disability;
Experience in working with students individually or in small group setting to support social, emotional, and academic support;
Experience conducting Functional Behavioral Analysis and writing behavioral support plans, analyzing behavioral data;
Ability to initiate productive communication to address student concerns with administration, team members, and parents;
Develop a daily/weekly schedule of instructional and non-instructional activities for each paraprofessional that supports students on your caseload always with the intent to build students' independence;
Comprehensive knowledge of the Planning and Placement Team process and legal and related compliance;
Become Handle with Care Trained (training provided by District in fall);
Conduct appropriate evaluations and assist other teams in understanding the special education eligibility process for students with or suspected of having a disability, including the use of state guidelines;
Demonstrate leadership qualities to bring initiative and innovation to the TLS and general education classrooms.
