Description: Secondary Special Education Compliance Monitor
Location: District
Reports to: Director of Pupil Services and Supervisor of SEL (Primary) / Building Principal (Secondary)
Start Date: 24/25 School Year
Broad Function:
The day-to-day operation of the compliance monitor is to ensure that all IEPs are in compliance and to ensure that special education teachers coordinate PPTs with all stakeholders involved. Work with teachers on data collection and student monitoring to create or revise IEP as well as ensuring that all related services are implemented within the educational setting. The Compliance Monitor supports implementation of district initiatives through professional development, collaboration with curriculum leadership teams, instructional coaching and program evaluation. The Compliance Monitor works in coordination with the Central Office Special Education and Pupil Services Leadership Team, the Special Education Elementary Instructional Support Teacher (SPEIST) and District Curriculum Teams.
Qualifications and Experience:
Must possess a valid Connecticut State Board of Education (#165) Comprehensive Special Education, K-12 certification, and or school psychologist certification.
Current CT special education certificate, Bachelors and Masters degrees
7 years of successful teaching experience
Peer coaching and instructional modeling experience
Current TEAM mentor training
Familiarity with current and best practices in literacy, numeracy, written language and strategies for instructing and assessing students who require special education
Proficiency in educational technology applications
Demonstrated educational leadership skill and interest
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
Demonstrated understanding of special education law, practices and policies
Demonstrated effectiveness in assessment, IEP writing, and student achievement
Understanding the different types of learning styles of students and providing appropriate class schedules to meet their needs.
Ability to work with a variety of different disciplines throughout the day.
Outstanding personal and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to multitask to a high degree of success.
Ability to communicate with students at the Local Education Agency.
Ability to input student schedules into PowerSchool.
Expert trainer with the new CT Special Education Data Systems (SEDS) Individualized Education Program (IEP) Platform.
Experience ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines pertaining to special education by assisting with the coordination and monitoring of evaluation timelines and implementation of IEPs, and related services.
Proven exemplary ability to write IEPs;
Extensive knowledge of special education law, strong communication skills; superior organizational skills;
Ability to meet deadlines
Education: Master's Degree in Special Education or Related Services Area
IEP compliance experience preferred
Salary & Compensation:
The Secondary Special Education Compliance Monitor schedule generally conforms to that of classroom teachers, the obvious differences being changed assignments as determined by Central Office Special Education Leadership Team's request, perceived needs, and teachers requests
The Secondary Special Education Compliance Monitor works an additional five (5) days, payment to be determined on a per diem basis
