POSITION: Registered Behavior Technician/Instructional Assistant, Grant Funded
LOCATION: Woodbury Middle School/Nonnewaug High School
START DATE: August 26, 2024
DEADLINE DATE: Until Filled
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Instructional Assistants will be expected to work with students at any level ranging from grades Pre-K-Transition, with specific responsibilities conditional to the grade level and program assigned.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/REQUIREMENTS:
Registered Behavior Technician Certification
Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field- Preferred
Associates Degree in Education or related field-Preferred
Health Certification from State Approved Training Program- i.e., CNA
High School Diploma and 6 or more years of direct experience in an educational setting, and a passing score on the Connecticut Para-pro Exam
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Ability to use technology to monitor and improve student achievement/progress. Understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Understanding of student medical needs. Ability to provide direct services to individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Collecting and recording data on student behavior. Collaborating and communicating with staff.
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services/Principal/BCBA
DUTIES:
Specific responsibilities could include any or all of the following:
Independently deliver instruction planned by a certified teacher
Resource Room oversight
Providing coverage for classrooms
Instructional classroom support
Comprehensive enough knowledge in their assigned area to enable them to develop lessons, write behavior plans, and consult with regular education teachers if necessary.
Assisting a student with work that they are having difficulty understanding
Directing students to the appropriate resources in order to complete assignments
Maintaining records on student performance to insure that interventions are reasonable for each student.
Assisting with physical restraint
Directly helping students with the proper use of instructional or assistive technology.
Assist in the development and implementation of:
behavioral strategies to promote student de-escalation
specific programs including OG Reading Methodology, Picture Exchange Communication, Behavior Plans, or direct lessons in specified subject areas
comprehensive remediation plans
In meeting the duties outlined above the RBT/IA could be expected to take on responsibilities in some or all of the following settings:
Programs for Autism Spectrum and Developmentally Disabled Students
Resource Rooms
Regular Education Classrooms
Library Media Centers or Computer Labs
Alternative Education Programs
