Post Doctoral Position in HIV-1 host-virus interactions

Summary: The Department of Genetics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine is seeking to fill one post-doctoral position immediately. Highly motivated PhDs are needed to take part in exciting HIV/AIDS projects.

HIV-1 host-virus interaction: Kalpana laboratory in the Department of Genetics focuses on the host virus protein-protein interactions centered around HIV-1 integrase (IN) and INI1/SMARCB1.

Recent studies from Kalpana laboratory has revealed the RNA mimicry of IN binding domain of INI1/SMARCB1 (https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-021-22733-9). We are interested in conducting structural, mechanistic studies and development of a novel class of inhibitors to disrupt IN-INI1/SMARCB1 interactions based on these studies. Additional studies are focused on the understanding of mechanisms of HIV-1 persistence using state-of-the-art single molecule RNA-FISH strategy to facilitate cure strategies. Check out This week in Virology (TWIV) podcast episode 314:

Einstein goes Viral (https://www.microbe.tv/twiv/twiv-314/) and Einstein Research Brief https://einsteinmed.edu/research-briefs/2601/a-novel-strategy-for-inhibiting-hiv-1-replication/. For this position, please email Dr. Ganjam V. Kalpana at ganjam.kalpana@einsteinmed.edu

The person/s to be appointed will have the opportunity to spearhead exciting projects designed to unravel the molecular mechanisms of HIV replication using structural, molecular biological, virological and cell biological methods. He/she will be able to interact with expert scientists and physicians at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine as well as other collaborating institutions.

Qualifications:

The candidates should have a PhD in Biochemistry, structural biology, Cell Biology, Molecular Virology or a closely related field. Applicants with experience in structural analysis are preferred. Applicants with additional qualifications in biochemical and genetic techniques, CRISPR/Cas9 technology are also encouraged to apply.

The Einstein base minimum salary for postdoctoral positions is $65,000. For a complete list of the postdoctoral salary ranges, please visit our website: https://www.einsteinmed.edu/research/belfer-institute/postdoctoral-policies/
