Join the Alaska Tribes Extension Team as an outreach coordinator and educator! The goal of the Alaska Tribes Extension Program is to promote food sovereign and secure Tribes in Alaska.

We help Tribes reach their goals around food sovereignty and security through hands-on and virtual workshops, technical assistance, and more. We co-teach with Traditional Knowledge Holders. The Tribes Extension Program is part of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Cooperative Extension Service.

This position will join the Alaska Tribes Extension Team serving as an outreach coordinator and educator. The goal of the Alaska Tribes Extension Program is to promote food sovereign and secure Tribes in Alaska.

We help Tribes with a variety of endeavors to promote community food security, resiliency, and economic diversity, while upholding traditional knowledge and traditional ways of securing food. We offer hands-on and virtual workshops throughout Alaska in partnership with Tribes and Traditional Ecological Knowledge Holders. This role will support efforts throughout the state. The Tribes Extension Program is part of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Cooperative Extension Service.

To thrive in this position, you will need:

A combination of knowledge, experience, or education in the following areas: food, nutrition, Traditional Ecological Knowledge, gardening, and agriculture;

Teaching experience, ideally in an informal setting;

Teaching diverse audiences;

Experience writing or developing relevant outreach content;

The ability to partner with and be guided by Tribes, Traditional Knowledge Holders, and diverse groups and entities; and

To give attention to detail especially as it relates to report deadlines, regulations, and procedures;

A typical to-do list in this position may include:

Planning your next trip, likely to a couple of villages in the region at once;

Crunching demographic numbers and writing an impact statement for an upcoming report;

Assisting in gathering and entering data, and helping prepare grant reports.

Providing technical assistance to a Tribe on a grant they are submitting to secure a greenhouse; and

Helping a Tribe figure out which varieties of vegetables will grow best in their greenhouse; and

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in related field and one year experience (i.e. education, public service, human development, agriculture & natural resources, human resource development), or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

A valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks Alaska. This is a part-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.

UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
