Job Overview

Installs, inspects tests, maintains, and repairs intrusion detection and fire alarm detection and suppression systems in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and National Fire Protection Association standards.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

  • Inspects fire alarm detection and annunciation equipment and replaces defective components

  • Repair fire alarm systems as required to eliminate all trouble signals

  • Accomplish recurring scheduled inspections and or maintenance

  • Respond to all reported troubles and correct system errors

  • Maintain fire alarm systems per UFC 3-601-2

  • Tests initiating and signal circuits, detectors, and system transmitter

  • Makes needed repairs, and checks pressure gauges on suppression system storage containers and recharges or replaces containers

  • Assure suppression systems are free of corrosion and assure operation

  • Coordinate and report all system status to station fire chief

  • Maintain maintenance and inspection computerized records up to date in NFPA required format

    • Performs related work as assigned.

Accountable For:

  • Common safety practices and protective equipment used on a construction site.

  • Procedures for the safe operation and maintenance of electrical circuits, both overhead and underground.

  • Solid-state and conventional control circuitry,

  • Using hand and power tools commonly used in the construction trade.

  • Understanding and following directions.

  • Reading and working from blueprints and engineering drawings.

Work Conditions:

The employee is regularly required to talk and hear to understand instructions, provide information and respond to safety warnings. Work conditions require the employee to stand; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; taste or smell; and work on scaffolding and ladders, as well as elevated platform, and confined spaces when required to access systems. The employee may frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance and lift and/or move heavier objects with assistance.

Mandatory

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.

  • Current CPR certification or the ability to obtain.

  • Valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

  • Ability to pass National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI)

  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.

  • Minimum ten (10) years' experience in installation, commissioning, inspection, and repair of fire alarm, detection, annunciation and suppression systems

  • Current and ability to maintain NICET Level II certification for fire alarm detection and annunciation systems

  • Current and ability to maintain NICET Level II certification for special hazards suppression systems

  • Ability to successfully pass a preemployment physical and drug test

Preferred

  • Current and ability to maintain NICET Level II certification for water-based suppression systems

  • Manufacturer system certification as applicable (e.g. Monaco, Ansul, Firetrace, etc)

  • Experience working in a remote location

  • Confined space training

All persons employed for this contract must be U.S. citizens and qualified to obtain and/or maintain a personnel security clearance with the U.S. Government. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. After receipt of an employment offer letter, applicants must complete the Standard Form 86 and be granted an interim Secret clearance by the U.S. Government before the deployment process can begin.

Transportation from Honolulu, Hawaii to Wake Island will be furnished by government sponsored aircraft. Meals and housing will be provided by the program while working on the island. Employees will live in a dormitory housing environment and meals will be furnished daily through the cafeteria commissary. This role is perfect for someone who is able to remain away for long periods of time while working on island with occasional scheduled trips back to Honolulu.</p><p>Key Role:</p><p>Repair, overhaul, and maintenance and servicing of commercial, industrial and residential heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and refrigeration units. Duties include:</p><ul><li><p>Repairs, overhauls, maintains, and services industrial and residential heating, ventilating, hydronic, and air conditioning systems, and refrigeration units.</p></li><li><p>Cleans, services, and repairs mechanical room equipment</p></li><li><p>Troubleshoots and locates malfunctions, diagnoses problems, and determines appropriate repairs.</p></li><li><p>Observes and interprets readings on gauges, meters, and charts which register various aspects of HVAC operations.</p></li><li><p>Repairs or replaces compressors and components, electric motors, fans, belts, and pulleys. Services and repairs evaporators, condensers, and receivers.</p></li><li><p>Repacks valves, lubricates moving parts, replaces filters and cleans coils as needed.</p></li><li><p>Recovers, tracks, and manages refrigerants and all ozone-depleting chemicals (ODCs) in accordance with EPA Regulations.</p></li><li><p>Adjusts, repairs, or replaces thermostats, pressure stats, relays, switches, and electrical wiring.</p></li><li><p>Repairs components within a system to include transformers, motors, electrodes, solenoids, rheostats, and aqua stats.</p></li><li><p>Maintains logs and equipment inventories in which various aspects of HVAC systems and their operations are recorded and reported</p></li><li><p>Treats HVAC systems with chemicals and analyzes for such things as acidity, causticity, and alkalinity following prescribed methods</p></li><li><p>Installs or repairs water, steam, or other types of piping associated with Heating and Hot/Cold domestic Water Systems.</p></li><li><p>Cuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape using cutting and bending equipment and tools; cuts and threads pipe using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment.</p></li><li><p>Bends and forms sheet metal for ductwork, grease pans, etc.</p></li><li><p>Paints and insulates HVAC mechanical rooms and distribution equipment.</p></li><li><p>Works from blueprints, drawings, models and/or verbal and written instructions</p></li><li><p>Inspects work to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, policies, and regulations.</p></li><li><p>Ensures proper housekeeping of jobsite, mechanical rooms, and shops.
