Full Range: $18.23 - $24.61 Per Hour

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification.

This intermittent position, with rotating day, evening, and weekend shifts, provides recreation services instructing one or more specialized recreation areas.

This position is located at Ajo Community Center, 290 W 5th St., Ajo, AZ 85321.(Work assignments may vary depending on the department's needs and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.)

Assists in overseeing any one of a number of recreation activities, such as sports, dance, twirling, crafts and table games;

Assists in operation of leagues, tournaments, meets, and the daily programmed activities;

Interprets and explains game rules and referees and umpires ball games;

Keeps recreation facility in a clean and orderly condition;

Issues receipts;

Prepares cash reports;

Gives information to the public regarding recreation facilities and programs;

Shows movies;

Maintains projection equipment;

Tells or reads stories to children;

Maintains attendance and other records and prepares reports.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Knowledge of:

• game rules, crafts, and sports;
• first aid;
• arithmetic and simple bookkeeping

Skilled in:

• maintaining discipline;
• working harmoniously with large or small groups;
• making routine and simple computations accurately;
• operating and maintaining projection equipment.

Any combination of training and experience which demonstrates the minimum knowledge and skills.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):

• Experience designing and implementing recreational and/or creative arts programs (full-scale development from conception to execution).

• Experience instructing and leading groups of program participants of varying ages.

• Experience working independently or with little supervision.

• Experience with/knowledge of playground and/or group games.

• Interprets and explains game rules, as well as referees ball games.

• Bilingual (Spanish and English).

Selection Procedure:

Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum/desired qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant's suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services' review and approval of the candidate's driving record.
