The City

We are a full-service city comprised of nine departments, that include our own city staffed Fire and Police departments.   Additionally, the city oversees a general aviation airport, a library, and a variety of recreational buildings, facilities, and activities.  As a mid-sized organization providing a variety of services to both internal and external customers, employees are afforded the opportunity to perform varied work within their job classifications.

The Airport

Fullerton Airport is the last general aviation airport in Orange County. Airport staff in conjunction with other Public Works staff provide services for business development; facility maintenance; capital improvements for the pavement, drainage, tower, lobby and hangars.

The Position

Under direct or general supervision an Airport Service Worker performs a variety of skilled, general and manual duties related to the maintenance and repair of airport facilities to include runways, taxiways, parking ramps, wash racks, airport lights and building facilities; assists airport users by directing aircraft to available facilities and performs related work as required. Education and Experience:

Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Graduation from high school

AND

One year of performing general maintenance duties. Some airport related experience is helpful.

Special Requirements Include:

Valid Class C California Driver's License and acceptable driving record at time of appointment and throughout employment in this position. Employees in this classification will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles Government Pull Notice Program.

Certain assignments may require the possession of or the ability to acquire a specialized motor vehicle operator's license.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate City needs. Certain assignments may require shift work, holiday and weekend work and are subject to overtime and emergency call back.

ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE

Applicants must be specific and complete in describing qualifications for the position.

BASED UPON THE INFORMATION PRESENTED ON THE APPLICATION MATERIALS, Applicants possessing the most suitable qualifications will be invited to a written examination, performance examination, oral interview and/or other assessment instrument.

NOTE:

Candidates who successfully complete the assessment process for Airport Service Worker will be placed on an eligible list for the respective classification, which will remain in effect for at least one year or until an insufficient number of candidates remain on the list.

All employment offers, including appointment offers to City of Fullerton employees, are conditional based upon the successful completion of a medical examination performed by the City's designated physician, at City expense. Medical exams are administered to assess an individual's ability to perform the physical requirements of this position. In addition, City of Fullerton employees appointed to safety sensitive classifications and all new hires will undergo a drug screen.

All new hires will be fingerprinted. Fingerprints are verified with the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Current City of Fullerton employees may be given preference during the testing and/or selection process.

All new hires, including non-regular City of Fullerton employees appointed to this position, will serve a one-year probationary period. Regular City of Fullerton employees promoted to this position will serve a six-month probationary period.
