Seeking Qualified Candidates! Applications are currently being accepted by Rural Metro Fire for part-time Airport Firefighter in San Marcos, TX.

The Airport Firefighter/EMT is responsible for the safe and acceptable performance of all firefighting functions, emergency medical first aid, assist and participate in all firefighting, and lifesaving activities to Berry Aviation in support of their Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) contract requirements, with NAS 3306 as the primary standard governing these operations. The Firefighter, as a crew member, will follow the leadership of the department in all the orders and written policies and procedures and all other written orders.

Essential Functions

  • The Firefighter maintains a high standard of safety and work performance in the execution of their duties. This will include maintaining safe work practices and compliance with company, client, airport and governmental agency policies, rules, standards, and regulations, communicating any deficiencies and recommendations for correction to the Fire Chief.

  • Complete all assigned daily duties as directed.

  • Driver Operator of ARFF apparatus as a Firefighter.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned, as the scope of the client services requires or broadens.

  • Must comply with client and airport's Rules, Regulations and Procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to carry out oral and written directions.

  • Ability to prepare reports on the handling of routine or emergency duties.

  • Must demonstrate good character appropriate to the requirements of the job.

  • Must present an appearance consistent with other employee appearance standards.

  • BLS EMT providing quality medical care from ARFF vehicles. No ambulances.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in determining the appropriate action to be taken relating to job responsibilities.

  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties, to include all client and airport co-employees.

  • Ability to communicate effectively to individuals and groups using good oral, written, and listening skills.

Education, Qualifications, and Experience Necessary

  • Valid state driver's license throughout the employee's term of employment.

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

  • Must be able to speak and understand English (verbal and written).

  • Minimum 2 years firefighting experience.

  • Know and understand fire suppression, prevention, and combat (tactical) techniques as it applies to aircraft.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

  • Must have NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800

  • AHA CPR/AED or Equivalent (Required)

  • Must be certified as an NFPA 1001 Firefighter II by IFSAC or Pro-Board or accredited agency (Required)

  • Must be certified to the NFPA 472, Hazardous Materials-Operations by IFSAC or Pro-Board or accredited agency (Required)

  • Must be certified as an NFPA 1003 Airport Firefighter by IFSAC or Pro-Board or completion of an FAA 40-hour approved course with current annual burn. (Required)

  • Must be certified as a National Registry/Texas DSHS EMT-B. Must maintain the EMS certification throughout term of employment. (Required)

  • Know and understand fire suppression, prevention, and combat (tactical) techniques as it applies to aircraft.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

All candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment and annual physical exam, drug test and extensive background check. A valid driver's license in good standing is required at all times.
