The City of Bangor has a new opening for an Airport Maintenance Technician for the Bangor International Airport. This position provides valuable supports to airport functions and occurs in an exciting work environment with a great team of professionals. Come join the team today!

SOME OF THE DUTIES OF THIS POSITION INCLUDE:

Performs emergency as well as permanent repairs to both concrete and asphalt pavements, grounds, fencing, landing areas and- ramps, lighting, and airport owned and operated equipment.

Patches, crack fill, and pavement seals airport runways, taxiways and ramps using appropriate equipment.

Replaces or repairs damaged runway lights, fences, gates, and signs, as assigned.

Mows grass and trims weeds, removes trash and debris from assigned airport areas, using appropriate equipment such as zero turns and farm tractors.

Regularly checks and maintains equipment and vehicles to ensure proper fluid levels and mechanical functions, performs minor mechanical repairs as needed.

Maintains airfield and street pavement markings using various types of line striping equipment.

Removes snow and ice from airport runways, parking lots and related areas using appropriate equipment such as snowplows, blowers, sweepers, and front-end loaders. Required to work assigned shifts plus overtime unless excused by supervisor during snow removal operations.

Performs related duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

Working knowledge of or ability to learn the occupational hazards and safety precautions of airport maintenance as well as required procedures of working in Air Traffic Controlled areas.

Working knowledge of a variety of trades, ability to physically perform necessary maintenance and repairs of airport buildings, grounds, pavements, and related equipment.

Ability to perform maintenance tasks as directed by oral and written directions and to interpret rough sketches and penciled layouts.

Ability to safely use welding and torch equipment.

Ability to respond to airport emergencies on a 24-hour basis and work prolonged hours under adverse weather conditions.

Possession of or ability to obtain within a year or as scheduled school become available a Class B motor vehicle license.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Incumbent performs majority of duties out of doors, in varying weather conditions, and is periodically exposed to excessive noise, dirt, dust, and vehicle and equipment fumes. Safety precautions must be used at all times to avoid injury to self and others.

Moderate physical effort is exerted by incumbent in the set up and operation of equipment, including bending, stooping and movement of extremities necessary to handle equipment controls. Moderate physical effort is frequently required for regular periods of time.
