NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.
This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

Loss of military membership will result in immediate loss of your full-time military technician position.
In order to achieve compatibility prior to effective date of personnel action, individual selected must be eligible for military assignment to a paragraph and line number in one of the following AFSC 1P0X1.
In order to qualify for above mentioned AFSC(s) you must comply with mandatory entry requirements contained in Air Force Manual AFMAN 36-2108, Enlisted Classification or AFMAN 36-2105, Officer Classification, as applicable.
If selected for this position who is not qualified in one of the mentioned AFSC, MUST submit to HRO, before date of appointment, the correct military paperwork/application to attend the technical training school required to be AFSC Qualified.
If selectee fails to process the school application and does not successfully graduate from the school, he/she will be terminated from the technician program for failure to meet the compatibility standards and receive a 30 days notice of separation.
This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.


This position require military membership in the Puerto Rico Air National Guard (PRANG). As a AIRCRAFT SURVIVAL FLIGHT EQUIPMENT REPAIRER (D1867000), WU-4818-10, you will provide diagnostic, analytical, calibration, investigative research, troubleshooting, in-depth inspections, quality control inspections, certification, testing, evaluation, and maintenance or overhaul of all aircrew life support and chemical defense equipment. Provides formal academic classroom and technical instruction to all pilots/aircrew on all initial and continuation instruction to ensure aircrew survival ability under peacetime or combat operations. Responds and participates as an Air Force aircraft mishap board representative in investigating life support equipment failures/malfunctions associated with mishaps.

Work is usually completed while standing or sitting and may be for extended periods of time. Considerable amount of stooping, bending, or kneeling is necessary as well as working in cramped areas and on ladders and scaffolds. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts heavier items with assistance.

Work is primarily in adequately heated, lighted, and ventilated shops. Occasional work outside is necessary and may be performed under complex conditions and or mission constraints to include extreme weather conditions, night operations, etc. Such work may be performed on the flight line or during field training events. Hazards include eye, respiratory, explosive munitions, pyrotechnics actuating devices and high pressure cylinders, and skin irritation from adhesives, solvents, silicones and epoxies, oxygen, oxidizers and lithium batteries. The incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, punctures, and abrasions from handling sharp tools and electrical shock when testing components, and irritation from materials treated with special finishes. The incumbent is subject to a substantial amount of noise from sewing machines and oxygen cylinders, vibration from tools and machines. Dust and lint from fabrics and fumes and odors from glues, preservatives, and cleaners may be present.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training which demonstrates the applicant's knowledge of materials and equipment used in the line of work such as helmets, torso harness assemblies, parachutes, survival equipment, oxygen masks, night vision goggles, etc., ability to understand written instructions and to use reference materials and manuals.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess more than EIGHTEEN (18) months of specialized experience performing or supervising duties such as inspecting, testing, calibrating, certifying, diagnostic evaluating, troubleshooting, repairing/replacing, assembling and disassembling all aircrew life support equipment, aircrew chemical/biological defense equipment, and aircraft ejection/non-ejection systems; conducting FOT&E (Follow on Test and Evaluation) of aircrew life support and aircrew chemical defense equipment; planning, organizing, developing, directing, implementing, evaluating, and conducting SERE Training activities; managing, monitoring, and conducting inventories of all Life Support munitions/ammunition assets, forecasting time change requirements, removing and installing all munitions.

Selectee must attend water and land survival schools, the Life Support instructor course, and the aircraft accident reporting course within 18 months of the effective date of the personnel action as a condition to continue of employment.

Must obtain and maintain Materials Handling license for equipment utilized in the assignment and be certified and remain current in Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA).

Evidence of the enrollment must be submitted to HRO within 30 days of the effective date of the personnel action. Failure to comply with the established time frame will be basis for removal from employment.


Study successfully completed in a college university, technical or vocational school may be substituted at the rate of one academic year of study (30 semester's hours or 20 classroom hours of instruction per week) for 6 months of specialized experience. Courses must be directly related to the work of the position. Copy of student transcripts (showing conferred Degree) or training certificates must be included in order to receive credit for education. Unofficial transcripts from internet or with alterations will not be considered. To receive credit for education the information must be included in the education section of the Resume.
