Job Description

Performs a variety of Depot Level operations to assemble and repair major aircraft structures such as fuselage panels, longerons, stringers, formers, and structural subassemblies such as rudders, flaps, and stabilizers. Aligns parts on jigs using templates and fixtures. Performs such part-fitting operations as filing, sawing, burring, crimping, trimming, framing, riveting, drilling, and reaming. Measures parts with micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions. May modify incomplete and complete assemblies to incorporate changes to structure. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) and at least 4 years of related experience

  • Must be able to obtain an Interim Secret clearance before start.

  • Must be able to obtain a DoD secret clearance with ability to maintain.

  • Close tolerance drilling and cold working experience.

  • Able to read and interpret schematics, assembly drawings, process specifications, technical manuals, written instructions, test procedures, etc.

  • Able to setup and use a variety of precision measuring instruments such as: dial indicators, micrometers, gauges, protractors, and calipers, etc.

  • Able to use common hand tools such as: drills, reamers, deburrers, files, rivet guns, bucking bars, etc.

  • Able to assemble aircraft structures and associated components with the aid of jigs and fixtures by drilling, filing, filling, honing, reaming, counter-sinking, dimpling, burring and fastening.

  • Able to perform close tolerance assembly operations such as: shimming, fitting, trimming, and aligning where variances may occur considerably from one assembly to another as with fairings and the mating of major structural assemblies.

  • Able to clearly document maintenance and repair actions, equipment status tags, logs, parts requests, etc.

  • Able to perform assigned duties while wearing required safety equipment. Able to perform assigned duties on all shifts without encumbrances due to weather or physical location and conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • F/A - 18 aircraft structural mechanic experience at Depot Level

  • A&P license

Military aviation platform experience in the F/A-18, P-8, F-5, T-6,T-44,H-60 is a plus. EA-6B and/or T-44 experience is a must. DUTIES * Maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty * Maintains and repairs aircraft components including, but not limited to, flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components * Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions * Applies required expertise in restoring equipment condition and or operation * Applies comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as blueprints or manufactures' manuals * Make necessary entries into aircraft logs and records * Disassembly, repair and assembly of aircraft structural components, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, internal and external fuel cells, cockpits, landing gear and all related sub-assemblies * Veteran use of all associated hand tools and mechanic tools required * Other duties as assigned EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS * High School Diploma or equivalent * A&P license not required but a plus * Prefer experience from military fixed wing community (F/A-18, P-8, F-5, T-6,T-44,H-60) or civilian heavy structure background * Minimum five (5) years heavy structure U.S. Military or related FAA or civil aviation * Must be able to work in tight and enclosed spaces * Must have EA-6B and/or T-44 experience * Must have Military installation DEPOT level maintenance experience * Must be able to read and interpret maintenance instruction manuals, blue prints, service bulletins, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components * Must be a US Citizen * Must be able to pass a background check, which could include a full credit check * We maintain a drug-free workplace and perform post offer, pre-employment substance abuse testing.
