The Akron Board of Education announces an opening for a AIM HIGH AKRON - GEAR UP Program Manager, Job Code 071, TS 522 (260 Days), Salary Range TBD. Collective Bargaining Unit - none. This is a School Employees Retirement System position.

Qualifications:

Required: Must be met at the time of application except where noted:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field

  • In-depth knowledge of the district focus

  • Knowledge about the purpose of the GEAR UP Grant

  • Demonstrated excellence in writing and communication

  • Adept at building and sustaining relationships

Two or more years' experience in one or more of the following:

  • Developing programs involving staff, students and parents to increase student achievement

  • Experience with connecting community partners to assist with the organizational goals

  • Experience in working with data and systems evaluation

Desired:

  • Master's degree in Education or related field

  • Use technology to organize data and display to allow for decision making regarding curriculum, instruction and assessments;

  • Knowledge of College and Career Academies of Akron;

  • Knowledge of professional learning communities and effective team meetings;

  • Experience in grant development and implementation;

  • Ability to communicate effectively with administrators, staff, parents, students and community;

  • Commitment to use best practices and research-based college and career access programming

POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • Manage a team of staff and volunteer members assigned to schools for the purpose of tracking early warning indicators, supporting advisory programs, ensuring that students are engaging in high school and beyond planning activities, and working in after school programs.

  • Convene weekly meetings of staff members, provide professional learning for strong program delivery, ensure community service projects are robust and relevant.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners to deliver robust, high-engagement, academic and social/emotional after-school and summer programs that help students with their academic achievement as well as leadership, community service, and career and college exploration and access.

  • Work with schools and community partners to develop and execute a strategy for significantly increasing family engagement in academic improvement, high school and beyond planning, and career and college awareness and access. Oversee and convene advisory groups of students, families, and community members to ensure activities are responsive to their needs.

  • Manage contracts with external evaluators, as well as ensure deliverables (surveys, data, reports) are met by schools, district offices, and external contractors.

  • Work closely with schools to review evaluation data regularly and make program improvements where possible based on those reports.

  • Manage relationships with grant partners.

  • Collaborate with the College Program Manager to promote and support the implementation of AVID practices in all GEAR UP schools by organizing training sessions, providing direct support to teachers and school leaders, and managing tutors.

  • Track and manage grant deliverables, budget, grant reports, and coordinate with USED of changes to budget or scope. This includes convening working teams and committees of district leaders, ensuring that school advisory teams are in-place and effective, and that grant deliverables are met on time.

  • Support the recruiting/hiring of AIM HIGH GEAR UP staff, including Family Engagement Specialist, and Advisors

  • Administer, manage and support various aspects of the GEAR UP Grant.

  • Assist with recruiting faculty from target schools for professional development sessions

  • Collaboratively work with the Project Director of Project GRAD Akron, and College Access Program Manager

  • Reports to and performs any other tasks assigned by the Director of College Access
