THE POSITION
Are you interested in an entry-level position providing care and treatment to veterans? If so, join the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) as an Aide Trainee! We are seeking ambitious and compassionate individuals to provide basic health care to residents of the Pennsylvania Soldiers' and Sailors' Home (PSSH). DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, you will receive formal and on-the-job training to provide care to our veteran residents. After you pass an 8-hour online training course, a 16-hour classroom course, and an 80-hour orientation program, you will become eligible for promotion to a Nurse Aide position.
Our talented nursing staff provide around-the-clock care to the veterans and their spouses who call PSSH home. You will complete a wide variety of tasks throughout the facility, such as distributing meals, transporting residents, and participating in social activities. Other duties will include changing linens, cleaning medical equipment, and fulfilling requests for snacks and water. Your assistance and friendly conversation will help to put a smile on our residents' faces.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
Work hours are 2:45 PM - 11:15 PM with a 30-minute lunch. You will be required to work every other weekend.
Work hours during classroom orientation will be 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Willingness to work in the city of Erie, Erie County, Pennsylvania
Willingness to work a full-time permanent position for the 2:45 PM - 11:15 PM shift with rotating days and weekends (after certification is obtained on an 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM shift classroom orientation)
Completion of an 8-hour online training course prior to hire and providing a certificate of completion
Work experience caring for geriatric or physically ill individuals
Be at least 18 years of age
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent
Legal Requirements:
A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
