St. Mary's Medical Center's tradition of care began on November 6, 1924, when eight Pallottine Missionary Sisters opened a 35-bed hospital. These pioneer Sisters adopted the motto, "The Love of Christ Impels Us," thereby creating a strong foundation for their dedication and hard work.Throughout the past 90 years, thousands of lay people -- employees, physicians and volunteers -- have joined the Pallottine Missionary Sisters to bring quality health care to the people of the Tri-State. Today, St. Mary's is the largest medical facility in the region and the Tri-State's largest healthcare employer with more than 2,800 employees. Its Regional Heart Institute, Regional Cancer Center, Regional Neuroscience Center and ER/Level II Trauma Center provide advanced care to the people of the tri-state region.
