The Undersea Systems Office (USO) within the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is seeking an Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Autonomy Scientist for our State College, PA location. Responsibilities for this position include: "Hands-on" technical support and leadership of sponsored research programs in a team-focused environment with a very innovative and motivated staff of scientists and engineers; mentorship of junior technical staff; strategic interaction with USO senior management; proposal development and sponsor interaction; collaboration with others working in AI and autonomy, both within and outside of Penn State; and participation in national/international professional societies and conferences.

The opportunity exists to teach, advise students, chair graduate student committees, and be admitted to the graduate faculty of an academic department at Penn State University. The USO serves as a research center of excellence in undersea weapons, Unmanned Undersea Vehicles (UUVs), and advanced sonar supporting our national security and undersea warfare sponsors through the development and demonstration of science and technology. The office has approximately 350 employees and an annual budget in excess of $100 million.
