MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A baccalaureate degree with at least twenty-four semester hours in any one or a combination of the following fields: agricultural sciences, biological sciences, veterinary science, forestry, law enforcement or criminal justice plus three years of professional experience in law enforcement or in the enforcement of agriculture, livestock or forestry laws, rules and regulations.

SUBSTITUTIONS FOR DEGREE ONLY:

Four years of experience as a Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certified peace officer in a full-time position, whose job duties include armed duty with the power of arrest, will substitute for the required college degree.

NOTE:

A combination of college training and POST experience will not be allowed to substitute for the degree.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have attained eighteenth birthday at time of application.

Must possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment.

An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

A drug screen and background check will be administered prior to employment.

Must possess an active Peace Officers Standard of Training (POST) certification and current annual training requirements.

NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

To supervise, within a multi-parish District, activities which provide protection of life and/or property through enforcement of criminal statutes related to agriculture and forestry lands and activities.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from Agriculture/Forestry Enforcement Officer 3 by the presence of supervisory responsibility.

Differs from Agriculture/Forestry Enforcement Manager by the absence of responsibility for a statewide agriculture or forestry enforcement program.

Incumbent of this position will supervise and assist statewide security and enforcement activities of the Louisiana Department of

Agriculture and Forestry. Incumbent of this position will receive broad direction from Ag/Forestry Enforcement Program Director.

Responsible for the supervision and performance evaluations of subordinates Police Officer 2/3A's or Ag/Forestry Enforcement Officers assigned to the security program for the headquarters building and Agriculture Enforcement Officer assigned to the Hammond Office. Incumbent is responsible for security program and Agriculture/ Forestry Hotline Complaints and Notification Program.

Responsible for work assignments, schedules, performance planning and evaluations, time sheets, leave authorizations of Police Officer 2/3A's assigned to the security program.

Assist the Ag/Forestry Enforcement Program Director in determining any security or safety issues related with the Headquarters building and LDAF offices statewide. Assist in the coordination and conducting quarterly security/safety meetings with tenant agencies with the headquarters building.

Investigate and report complaints from tenant agencies housed in the Baton Rouge complex.

Directs activities of the security division to help accomplish the mission of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry on a statewide basis.

Researches and develops policies and procedure for department personnel such as Active Shooter Response.

Incumbent is responsible for training management for the security program. Coordinates, schedules, and maintains training files.

specific to annual firearms qualification/requalification, First Aid/CPR, Annual continuing education and awareness training relative

to emergency response for the headquarters building and complex.

Incumbent is responsible for the overall security and access control of LDAF offices statewide.

Responsible for the research and implementation of new security technologies such as camera equipment or alarm systems.

Assists building safety in the research and development of various response plans and their implementation. Examples include but are not limited to fire escape plans, shelter in place, disaster response, etc.

Supervises and conducts safety/security inspections relative to all LDAF offices statewide. Incumbent coordinates and completes reports as required by the LDAF Safety Director.

Incumbent serves as a member of the LDAF EOC Team during times of activation.

This position is eligible for the Hazardous Duty Services Retirement Plan.

This position has powers of arrest and requires that the incumbent be POST certified.
