The CSI Agriculture Department is seeking applicants for a full-time, 10-month Agriculture Instructor position. The Agriculture Instructor will be part of a motivated and innovative instructional team dedicated to student success and industry responsiveness.

Timeline: For best consideration, applicants should submit all supporting materials by Monday May 6, 2024. The successful candidate will begin employment August 1, 2024.

Applicants will collaborate with other faculty in the CSI Ag. Department to develop and maintain programs of professional training and instruction for postsecondary students. The successful applicant will help support instruction and guide students in multiple agriculture-related degrees, including Animal Science and Natural Resources Management. The ideal applicant will have demonstrated experience in and ability to teach applied courses in animal science-related areas such as artificial insemination, meat science, livestock evaluation, animal husbandry, etc.) and courses related to rangeland management, such as rangeland management, forage crops, wildland plant identification, etc. Preference will be given to applicants who possess the desire and skillset to teach a variety of courses within and across disciplines, and flexibility to adjust courses taught based on departmental need.

Applicants must display a passion for agriculture and a heart-felt desire to educate and mentor students to ensure their academic, personal, and professional growth and success. Applicants should possess demonstrated work experience in an agricultural industry. The CSI Agriculture Department is primarily engaged in preparing graduates for employment. However, the Agriculture Department is unique in that many of the programs lead to transfer degrees. The chosen applicant must have a good understanding of the mission of Career and Technical Education, but also be able to teach college-level transfer courses.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Preparing students for employment or transfer to a four-year institution

  • Organizing and delivering a program of technical instruction, including demonstrations of skills in the applicant's field of expertise, lectures on theory, techniques, and terminology

  • Preparing and maintaining current course syllabi, course materials, lectures, and laboratories that enable students to earn an intermediate technical certificate, associate of applied science degree, or a transfer degree

  • Maintaining an appropriately rigorous curriculum and ensuring that student learning outcomes are achieved

  • Using data from assessments to drive program and personal improvement, and actively participating in CSI Student Success Initiatives

  • Advising students to ensure timely completion of required coursework in certificate and degree programs offered by the Agriculture Department.

  • Completing necessary paperwork for scheduling classes, selecting textbooks, and approving courses.

  • Supervising students in work-related internships or cooperative education experiences

  • Establishing and maintaining a Technical Advisory Committee composed of local and regional agribusiness partners

  • Establishing and maintaining close working relationships with local and regional agriculture industries.

  • Establishing and maintaining close working relationships with Idaho high school Agriculture and FFA programs

  • Working as a team with other members of the CSI Agriculture Department and with the College community

  • Other duties as assigned in contribution to the department and commensurate with rank

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree in an agricultural field is required, Master's degree or greater is preferred

  • Minimum of 3 years employment or self-employment in an agricultural industry

  • Recent teaching experience in related subjects, college-level, or other teaching of adults is preferred, but not required

  • Understand and enthusiastically support technical education

  • Idaho Division of Professional-Technical Education instructor certification in the program area, or ability to obtain certification

  • Promoting the departmental programs, recruiting and retaining students

  • Ability to participate in a CSI Effective Teaching Workshop and to attend an Idaho Division of Professional-Technical Education pre-service workshop

  • Enjoy working with young people, with primary focus on teaching excellence

  • Positive attitude and collegiality with other CSI employees

  • Willing to travel on a limited basis, as necessary

  • A strong desire for continuous improvement, personally and professionally

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must possess current Idaho driver's license to travel to professional development events, for recruitment purposes, for field trips, and to visit cooperative training sites. Successful applicant will work directly with 15-30 students in classroom, laboratory, and supervised work experience. Use of hand tools may be necessary occasionally and some lifting (up to 50 lbs.) will be necessary at times.
