SUMMARY
Under supervision of Cultural Resource Director/THPO and the Cultural Resource Specialist, will directly oversee the daily operations of the Soboba Cultural Agricultural Tech 1, including but not limited to standard maintenance, conditioning, seasonal planting and harvests, weed abatement, pest control, irrigation, soil management, testing, horticultural presentations, and other related duties as determined.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Although other duties may be assigned, the essential duties include the following:
Management of agricultural operations within the boundaries of the Cultural Garden, including but not limited to soil conditioning, testing, planting and harvests, weed abatement, pest control, irrigation management and the overall wellbeing of the Cultural Garden
Regular reporting and recordkeeping of planting schedules, irrigation times and access in and out of the garden
Responsible for documenting plant growth, harvests, and damages related to the Cultural Garden through daily summaries and photo record
Maintenance and inventory of all tools, equipment, supplies and assets
Act as a steward for pre-scheduled and approved visitors to the garden; visitors may consist of tribal youth, community members, horticultural organizations, volunteers and consultants.
Assist with scheduled horticultural presentations to community members, tribal youth groups and outside organizations (upon approval)
Assist Cultural Department Staff with planning and facilitation of cultural events/programming
Attend trainings and conferences as required
EDUCATION
High School diploma or equivalent
Degree or equivalent training/certifications in Agricultural Practices, Farming/Organic Farming, Agronomy, etc.
EXPERIENCE
QUALIFICATIONS
Proficient in farm operations
Ability to operate farm equipment (Tractor, Woodchipper, Rototiller, etc.)
Experience in soil management and testing
Possess knowledge of irrigation installation and maintenance
Ability to follow verbal and written directions
Thorough written and verbal communication skills
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Maintain basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
Experience working with Native American tribal communities
Able to interact well with tribal community, general public and peers
Knowledge of Southern California tribal history, customs, and traditions
REQUIRED
Clean DMV record
A current California Driver's License
