Job Description Summary:
Under moderate supervision, the position safely and effectively executes agricultural land restoration program objectives as well as department wide plans that support all chartered land uses and open space purposes. This role coordinates and conducts various agricultural and natural land management actions such as repairing and constructing agricultural fence and flood irrigation systems, conducts lethal control of prairie dogs on agricultural properties, controls noxious and invasive plant species, conducts land rehabilitation actions following prairie dog removal, improves ecosystem services such as soil health and native plant and wildlife habitat, and performs related duties as assigned.
Job Description:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES
Agricultural and Natural Land Maintenance and Restoration Techniques
Installs/maintains agricultural fences, gates, and culverts.
Maintains/constructs/runs flood irrigation ditches.
Operates and maintains pressurized exhaust rodent control (PERC) machines .
Manages noxious/invasive plant species, includes herbicide application.
Safe and effective operation of tractors, mini-excavators, and skid steers for various land management actions.
Safe and effective operation and maintenance of power tools such as weed whips, power augers, and chainsaws.
Safely operates pickup trucks and pulls trailers on and off road.
Performs surveys and mapping of invasive and noxious plant species using GPS technology and aerial photography.
Collects and sows native seed; installs and waters native plants on restoration sites.
Conducts other agricultural and natural land rehabilitation tasks as required.
Reporting & Communications
Maintains detailed records of work completed using asset and data management software.
Communicates with team leaders on daily and weekly work plans and project status updates.
Assists with project logistics such as methods, equipment needs, time allocation requirements, and use of external resources to accomplish project tasks.
Reports all accidents, damage to city property, and/or policy infractions.
Safety
Understands and complies with all policies, including safety best practices.
Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances, and acts accordingly to prevent accidents.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to motivate, lead, and work effectively as a member of formal and informal teams and getting groups to learn and work together.
Demonstrated ability building/maintaining agricultural fences, managing noxious weed species using mechanical and chemical methods, and operating and maintaining power tools such as chainsaws, power augers, and weed whips.
Ability to identify what needs to be done and doing it before being asked or before the situation requires it. Completes work in a timely and consistent manner.
Ability to actively listen and is open to the ideas and concerns of colleagues, public, and customers.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to operate and use specialized equipment including excavators, tractors with attached implements, and skid steers and be able to explain the rationale and use of methods.
Familiar with project management and variables involved including time, resources, standards, and responding to unexpected events.
Experience identifying native and non-native plant species in an agricultural or natural lands setting.
Proficient use of MS Office, ArcGIS or field data collection software.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
At least one years of work experience in agricultural and/or natural resources management field positions.
Must have a valid drivers' license and the ability to maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record.
Acceptable background information, including criminal history.

WORKING CONDTIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Ability to hike and/or conduct physical outdoor work up to 10 hours per day.
Ability to lift and/or carry up to 80 pounds while hiking over rough terrain.
May have exposure to hazardous field conditions, dangerous wildlife, and dangerous weather conditions.
Ability to work under stress from demanding, and often rapidly changing priorities.
Ability to communicate with staff professionally and effectively, agency partners, neighbors, and members of the public.
