South Dakota State University Agricultural Experiment Status is currently seeking an Agricultural Foreman at the farm operations support unit. This position will help maintain land and produce feed for the agricultural units on and near SDSU's main campus.

Job Responsibilities: This position will assist with duties that will enable the farm operations support unit to deliver the land grant mission of teaching research and extension by assisting with field operations including planting, spraying, manure management, harvest, and other duties as needed. This position will ensure feedstuffs are delivered to the correct livestock units for research teaching, and extension activities. The position will assist in data collection including but not limited to forage amounts, grain amounts, planted and harvested acres. Data is expected to be entered using MS office products. This position is expected to assist at livestock units as needed by tracking and delivering feedstuffs. This position is expected to operate and maintain farm equipment. This position would assist in training activities for students and seasonal hires.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Operations and maintenance of farm equipment and facilities

  • Data entry for inventory tracking purposes and budget analysis

  • Computer software (Excel, Word, and Outlook)

  • Training techniques

Skill & Ability to:

  • Operate tractors, skid loaders, and other farming equipment.

  • Communicate effectively.

  • Work in all weather conditions.

Required License: Valid driver's license. Commercial pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.

This person will need to be able to sit in tractors for many hours at a time. Also being able to lift bags of seed and silage bags. They will also need the dexterity to be able to loosen or tighten nuts and bolts in small confined spaces. It will also require crawling, around and under different machines

Much of the work is done outside so worker must be able to handle the weather extremes. Also since it is a farm worker job there will be dust and noise and uneven terrain. Be able to sit in front of computer screens for extended periods of time.
