The main focus of an Agile Development Manager is to facilitate and manage teams, they are not expected to contribute to velocity. Further, the manager has personal responsibility for the coaching and career development of direct reports, takes responsibility for eliminating impediments, and actively evolves the systems in which all team members operate. They have accountability for the effective value delivery as well. They work with other Agile Development Managers to help create exceptional teams and high quality development standards.
The Agile Development Manager works closely with the Product Owner and Scrum Master to implement product development processes, guardrails, quality standards, training, and pre-release validation activities and methodology. They also actively look for improvement opportunities and facilitate improvement initiatives across the delivery teams.
Personnel and Team Development
Attract, recruit, and retain exceptional people
Build high performance teams; influence mission and purpose for individuals and teams
Take subtle control in assignment of individuals to teams; address issues that teams cannot unblock; make personnel changes where necessary
Evaluate performance; provide input, guidance, and corrective actions
Participate in defining and administering compensation, benefits, and promotions
Understand, teach, and sponsor technical skills development in support of high-quality code, components, systems, tests, and solutions
Listen and support teams in problem identification, root cause analysis, and decision-making
Serve as Agile coach and advisor to Agile Teams with Scrum Masters
Actively participate in annual budget planning
Help ensure the teams have the tools to perform their tasks
Participate in Inspect and Adapt Workshops
Help protect Teams from distractions and unrelated or unnecessary work
Participate in PI Planning, System Demo, and Solution Demo
Provide other resources as necessary for teams and ARTs to successfully execute their vision and roadmap
Work with System Architect/Engineer, Product Managers, and Product Owners to establish clear content authority
Work with Release Train and Value Stream Engineers and system stakeholders to help ensure alignment and effective execution of Strategic Themes.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Leadership experience, skills, and training
Understand, support, and apply Agile Architecture
Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, trust-building, conflict-resolution, and writing skills
Effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
Software/Web automation scripting experience (Selenium WebDriver, HP UFT, Capybara, Watir, etc.)
Database knowledge/experience (SQL query language)

Meet multiple, challenging deadlines while communicating expectations clearly
EXPERIENCE AND PROFICIENCIES
Advanced knowledge within field
5 years of experience in software development required
4-year degree or equivalent experience
Team management experience
Conducts highly complex and critical tasks

Experience in enterprise-level software and/or the life sciences

Operate a computer and work at a desk for extended periods of time
