The YMCA of Florida's First Coasts' Youth Development is hiring energetic, outgoing people to work in our before and after school programs. Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a before and after school program. Candidates must enjoy working with children ages 5-12 and be able to work in multiple settings such as school cafeterias and playgrounds. Provides a quality experience to children focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Implements developmentally appropriate activities to foster individual growth and development of children.

Must be available during after school hours, early release days and various school holidays.

Essential Functions:

  • Actively participates with all children in providing a program that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual needs of both the individual child and the group.

  • Models appropriate interactions with the children individually and in groups and encourages their involvement in activities.

  • Models appropriate positive guidance techniques that include: redirection, positive reinforcement of children's efforts, anticipation and elimination of potential problems.

  • Encourages identification and verbalization of feelings..

  • Remains constantly aware of the growing needs of each child, offering new and enriching experiences as each child reaches each level of development.

  • Participates in planning with other staff to include lessons/activities within the framework of the assigned curriculum.

  • Maintains a good relationship with parents through regular communication and active participation in planned activities.

  • Participates in the maintenance of the facility to ensure it is clean at all times. Including but not limited to: wiping off fingerprints, picking up trash, cleaning up spills, cleaning furniture, toys and supplies, sweeping up after meals, or art activities, wiping off tables, keeping bathrooms clean, stacking chairs, EACH DAY, etc

  • High school diploma preferred.

  • At least 16 years of age.

  • Department of Children and Family 40 hours training preferred or complete within 30 days of hire date.

  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.

  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.

  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.

  • Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

  • Some previous experience working with children.

  • Swim skills preferred.

  • Physical Demands:

  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities.

  • Must pass a Level 2 Background Screening. Level 2 is a fingerprint check of state and federal criminal history information conducted through the Florida Department of law Enforcement (FDLE) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Ensures high quality programs through implementing and monitoring our School Age Curriculum.</p></li><li><p>Assists in the recruitment, hiring, training, developing, scheduling and directs personnel and volunteers as needed to ensure adequate and quality supervision of children and effective implementation of quality activities. Assists in reviews and evaluates staff performance. Assists in the development strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.</p></li><li><p>Supports in the management and control of budgets related to the position. Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected. Supports and budgets for healthy eating through coaching, mentoring, and monitoring menu quality (H.E.P.A).</p></li><li><p>Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed. Maintains and ensures compliance with written activity schedule, menu, fire drills, incident/accident reports and other forms of parent and staff communication.</p></li><li><p>Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.</p></li><li><p>Develops and maintains relationships with state child care licensing agency, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.</p></li><li><p>Provides staff leadership for annual fund raising campaign and committees as assigned.</p></li><li><p>Maintains proper records and written reports including department files on each child and staff.</p></li><li><p>Organizes special events for parents. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities.</p></li><li><p>Assists with Program Committee meetings.</p></li><li><p>Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.</p></li><li><p>Compiles program statistics.
