Position Description

The After-School Explorers [ASE] program provides extended-day care and enrichment classes for PK-5th grade students at Shady Side Academys Junior School campus in Point Breeze. Staff members interact and play with students while ensuring that they are safe, well-supervised, and get to scheduled activities on time.

Primary Responsibilities

  • To take attendance for a designated group of students upon arrival

  • To inform the Director of After School Explorers, via walkie-talkie or in person, if a student is not present

  • To organize a group game or supervise unstructured play time before or after snack time

  • To ensure that students put all materials away once they have finished using them

  • To know and follow rules of school and remind students to do the same when in attendance at After School

  • To be familiar with each students schedule and send student to scheduled activities on time

  • To be energetic and interact with students

  • To work cooperatively with colleagues

  • To supervise snack time in the cafeteria and make sure students clean up

  • To inform other staff members of group location for most efficient use of space

  • To respond to requests for students in assigned group to be sent to dismissal area

  • To think of creative games and activities that will engage students

  • To communicate with fellow staff members and Director regarding student behavior

  • To provide feedback and offer suggestions for ways to make the program better

  • To show up consistently and on time for duties

  • To participate in staff meetings and trainings when required

Compensation

Hourly wage of $10-$13, depending upon experience

Your responsibilities will include: * Coordinating with the Director of Marketing and Communications to craft admission publicity and recruitment materials, as well as to think strategically about ad placement. * Planning national recruitment efforts. * Liaising with prospective students and their parents, including arranging tours of the Purnell Center for the Arts as well as the occasional individual meeting. * Coordination and administration of pre-screening and audition scheduling. * Coordinating and supervising the annual audition tour in Chicago, New York and LA. * Developing strategic recruitment strategies and maintaining admission data. * Working closely with the Office of Undergraduate Admission on the processing and admitting of undergraduate students. * Handling admission communications and records, including transcripts and standardized test scores. * Participating in admission and merit scholarship decisions. * Supervising student audition assistants and tour guides. Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of or background in a fine arts discipline is a plus. * Three or more years in academic admissions or related field. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills; * Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and multitask; * Analytical, reasoning and problem solving skills; * Ability to build and maintain accurate record keeping systems; * Ability to establish positive working relationships with faculty, staff, administrative offices, parents, and prospective students; Preferred: * Master's Degree including college level coursework in education, theater, or related field. * Three or more years admissions experience in a university or conservatory theater program. * Deep understanding of theater or drama, including experience as a theater artist.
