The Afternoon Nurse Supervisor provides leadership and oversight for facility personnel and assists with assessments, planning, interventions and evaluations to assure positive outcomes are attained.
Must have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) preferred, or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Current CPR certification is required.
A minimum of two years experience in long term care setting. Prefer prior management experience.
Must have excellent assessment, planning, organization, communication and interpersonal skills with an understanding of person centered care.
Ability to work flexible shifts including periodic weekends, holidays and off shifts.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to communicate orally and through written reports and other documents relating to resident, staff and others. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of executives, managers, clients, customers, and the public.
Ability to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical journals and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Must be able to express self clearly and concisely in written and oral communication and to communicate effectively in an interdisciplinary care setting with residents, families, and staff members.
Supervises nursing care provided by registered nurses, licensed vocational/practical nurses and others for whom they are administratively or professionally responsible.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizational policies and applicable laws.
Plans, assigns and directs work.
Prepares work assignment sheets, taking into consideration Resident safety, the educational preparation, experience, knowledge and ability of the persons to whom the assignments are made.
Receives calls and finds replacements for absent staff as needed.
Transfers employees within facility as needed.
Participates in performance evaluations with the understanding that such evaluations impact tenure of probationary employees and wage increases of non-probationary employees.
Meaningfully rewards and disciplines employees with the understanding that such discipline results in termination of employment through progressive steps.
Communicates employee issues to department heads.
Schedules and adjusts lunch and rest breaks.
Receives and resolves employee complaints.
Monitors and corrects job performance of employees.
Is in charge of facility in absence of higher-ranking management officials.
Uses independent judgment and discretion on behalf of the organization in the performance of these duties.
Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesCare and Services:
Checks schedule at the beginning of the shift to assure staff are present and assignments are appropriate to meet the needs of residents.
Conducts rounds several times per shift, including meal times, to evaluate the quality of care provided, identify changes in condition, and assist residents and staff as needed to address care or service needs and to assure resident care is excellent and the environment is maintained in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition.
Greets visitors and is available for questions or concerns.
Reviews 24 hour report and follows up on new physician orders, changes in condition, and other issues. Assures new medications ordered are delivered, lab reports are communicated to the physician when indicated, and assessments complete when a change in condition occurs.
Demonstrates the knowledge and clinical expertise required to effectively supervise all nursing activities in the facility.
Follows through to assure all nursing procedures and systems are in place and clearly communicated to staff throughout the facility.
Acts as a liaison between the day and off shift to communicate information, changes, and education programs.
Assesses and evaluates the systems which facilitate the delivery of quality Resident care.
Assesses and evaluates the performance and competency of staff on unit(s).
