Rotoflow Aftermarket Proposal Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

Rotoflow, An Air Products Business, is a full-service turbomachinery OEM - providing a wide-range of new equipment solutions and aftermarket services to our customers globally in market segments such as industrial gases, petrochemicals, and hydrocarbons. Aftermarket services such as spare parts, repairs, upgrades, field services, engineering evaluations, reliability and performance assessments, troubleshooting, training, remote diagnostics/data monitoring, and shop services are some of the many offerings provided from regional service centers for both Air Products and non-Air Products equipment.

We are seeking an Aftermarket Proposal Manager responsible for creating competitive, responsive, and customer focused solutions that win profitable business. The successful candidate will enjoy:

  • Being part of and helping develop and grow a world-class service and machinery business from its initiation and seeing the results of candidate's direct efforts through increased win rates, customer satisfaction, sales, and profits,
  • Working in a fast-paced environment, as part of a global team of professionals, with a day to day mixture of commercial proposal and technical work around inquiry to order process,
  • Significant direct interaction with customers, in coordination with account managers, to ensure Rotoflow is exceeding customer expectations with proposed solutions,

DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities will include:

  • Win business by effectively supporting the sales team during the inquiry to order process (ITO),
  • Use commercial and technical experience to generate timely and accurate proposals,
  • Support the sales team in opportunity development and assessment with customers,
  • Support Terms and Conditions reviews and negotiations with commercial and legal knowledge,
  • Ensure the achievement of sales and margin growth targets,
  • Help develop and refine consistent pricing strategies leveraging prior proposals and information on market conditions,
  • Perform application engineering on most proposals; utilize and develop machinery knowledge and expertise; leverage the Engineering team when workload or complexity of inquiries exceeds capabilities,
  • Work with a cross functional team from Sales, Engineering, Project Management, Operations, Purchasing, Quality, Marketing, etc to fully satisfy customer needs,
  • Provide technical support for customers and sales teams relating to customer and opportunity development; occasionally visiting customers with local sales team,
  • Prepare technical material for sales team (brochures, price list, technical and commercial proposals, etc.),
  • Providing insights to sales and marketing teams to help drive customer satisfaction, competitiveness, and profitability,
  • Book orders and effectively hand-off to the team responsible for execution, ensuring clear and succinct scope summaries and well-defined execution strategies to ensure orders are successfully fulfilled and exceed customer expectations,
  • With the other proposal managers, ensure tool sets are maintained that provide visibility on opportunities, leads, quotes, orders, revenue/margin and workload forecasting,
  • Help develop and improve work processes that result in speed, quality, competitiveness, and high levels of customer satisfaction.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Technical Degree (BA/BS/BEng) with minimum 10+ years of experience; mechanical engineering a plus,

  • Detailed knowledge of turbomachinery, accessory systems, and related technologies with prior application engineering/offering configuration a strong plus,

  • Demonstrated customer-facing and proposal creation experience a strong plus,

  • Flexible on location, but Houston, TX or Allentown, PA preferred,

  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills,

  • Must have ability to create, foster, and sustain customer relationships

  • Must possess attention to detail and strong customer focus,

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a cross-functional global team, with speed in the relentless pursuit to exceed customer expectations,

  • Goal oriented, self-motivated, with ability to drive success,

  • Excellent creativity, problem solving, and decision-making skills - including an understanding of when to work with team members and when to escalate both technical and administrative decisions,

  • Ability to create an environment of trust and consistently exhibit a positive attitude,

  • Ability to travel as needed to customer sites globally to support sales team.

We have an immediate need for a Proposal Manager supporting the Process Gases Product Line at our World Headquarters and Regional Engineering Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The incumbent will lead the development of new capital project opportunities, while meeting or exceeding the commercial requirements. This includes assisting the commercial team with setting sales/pricing strategy, understanding the market/competitiveness, defining the project execution strategy/schedule, and managing proposal cost budgets. The Proposal Manager is the focal point for defining the project scope and coordinating with the proposal team to plan and execute the proposal deliverables. The Proposal Manager will work with the full engineering team as well as operations, the commercial team, and all corporate functions to develop opportunities in our Process Gases technology suite—including gasification, steam-methane reforming, and cryogenic distillation for the production and processing of Hydrogen, Carbon monoxide, Synthesis gas, Helium, Natural gas, etc. The Proposal Manager will develop opportunities ranging from $10 million to $200+ million, total installed cost. Principal Accountabilities: * Own the bid and proposal work process. Lead proposal teams to ensure that the commercial organizations are provided with the best value proposition (capital and total evaluated life cycle cost) necessary to win and maximize profit consistent with commercial objectives. * Identify and communicate all key commercial, technical, and execution issues for proposals. * Lead the proposal team members effectively by communicating with them and focusing them on the correct priorities to ensure preparation of the best Air Products proposal. * Develop an appropriate level of scope definition consistent with targeted estimate accuracy; recommend value improvements prior to project approval. * Provide direct support to review customers' specifications and proposed contractual terms, discuss Air Products' capabilities with customers, present proposals, assist in contract negotiations, and review suppliers' proposals. * Work directly with customers and partners to determine scope splits. * Prepare proposals, estimates, and feasibility studies within the agreed upon constraints of time, effort (cost), and accuracy. * Conduct and document estimate risk analyses. * Communicate issues, status, and summaries to senior management. * After winning the business, continue to provide and evaluate ideas to improve profitability. * During execution, and in support of the Project Manager, provide support to define scope, costs, and risks of all changes to the project baseline. * Collect and analyze feedback from ongoing projects to obtain cost and other project performance factors to optimize and improve the accuracy of future estimates. * Understand and communicate market forces and competitor capabilities. * Comply with applicable Air Products work processes. * Develop an opportunity team environment that facilitates creativity, innovation, continued improvement and value engineering. Specifically, through effective communication and leadership, creation of a safe and positive work environment, recognition of team members' contributions, and involvement of the appropriate team members in decisions. * Maintain and develop tools needed for functional excellence. * These opportunities are global; 10~25% travel will be required.
