Job Description:
SUNY Maritime's Waterfront seeks Sailing Coaches for our High School Sailing and After School Adventure Sailing programs. Coaches will teach and coach sailing for 6th-12th graders of mixed abilities, beginners through experienced racers, on dinghies and keelboats. Coaches will also help to organize and plan practice sessions, clinics and regattas.
Responsibilities
Run successful practices and coach at regattas with assistance from Waterfront Staff
Support a positive student-athlete experience, which is reflected by both high retention and recruitment
Serve as a positive role model and mentor to the sailors
Support hosting of high school regattas and clinics (scheduled weekend days)
Assist in the operation and maintenance of the waterfront facilities, boats, equipment, and docks
Other duties as assigned by the Waterfront Staff
Requirements:
Required Qualifications
Experience teaching and/or coaching sailing with youth sailors
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially with a high school aged audience and their parents
Academic schedule that allows you to commit to the schedule for the practices
Willingness to collaborate as a team player and take initiative as a leader
Preferred Qualifications
US Sailing Level 1 Instructor Certification
US Powerboating Safe Powerboat Handling
Some knowledge of ISSA procedures, regatta management
Lifeguard certification
