Silver Knights Enrichment is the largest provider of after-school chess programs in Maryland, Northern Virginia, and Washington, DC. We work with more than 5,000 elementary school children every week. We are looking for smart and capable Chess Coaches that want to make a difference in the lives of elementary school children.

This position follows the academic year.

We are looking for an individual who plays chess, loves working with children (ages 5-11) and is interested in working during "after-school" hours.

You don't need to be a master chess player, but of course you can be! You will receive thorough training on how to use our curriculum to teach chess.

Earn $45 - $75 per club meeting (90-minute time commitment)


  • Knowledgeable in the rules of chess and basic strategy

  • Experience with elementary-age children

  • Must be able to pass a background check

  • Must be available at least 3 weekdays during the school year from 2:30 pm 5:00 pm

  • Have a reliable vehicle for transportation

  • Ability to lift 20 lbs of teaching equipment


  • Manage a classroom of 10-24 students (Aides are usually provided for larger groups)

  • Use our curriculum to demonstrate and effectively communicate all of the basic rules (piece movement, how to castle, check, checkmate, etc) and strategy

  • Promote good sportsmanship among students

  • Supervise parent pickup
